The Legbar Thread!

I need to get out and take pics of my 8 week old teens today. And I have eggs coming from 4 different sources this week and next, going to do one Incubator run this winter. Special prayers to the hatching gods that these winter-shipped eggs will hatch!

By the way I definately recommend staying away from the Hatching Eggs/ Paypal swap thread - that is a very dangerous place!! I did bookmark it though :D

Not bothered by the use of my image - not sure how the other person feels but I do also snag pics for reference of the internet. But I am hesitant to post more pictures or make certain comments regarding breeding these birds due to the negativity it seems to bring. I am trying to improve my stock but really don't need negative generalizations about my entire flock or my words over one or two pics if I try to share my thoughts, as imperfect or as inaccurate as they may turn out to be...still learning here and trying not to sink mine and everyone's buy price if y'all get what I mean. And with my neighbour issues over I'm so excited about this coming year.

The chicks look great

so I will post a pic of them below so everyone can see as I do love chick pics as much as anyone else. The bigger yellow chicks on top are the Jubilees

. The bottom two on the left and right side are males

- one was almost a goner (wet & cold so his down is a mess now) and the 3 darkest chicks are the females

. Definitely need 3 pens.............

Just want to say that these birds continue to impress me. The roosters are gentle with the ladies. They eat less then my leghorns (ideal), and lay very well. Today My chinese geese attacked me and one of my lebar roosters jumped on the geese to protect me. He would even get between me and the geese. I think they make the perfect chicken.

You Do have a very neat rooster. I have noticed that the little cockerel growing out here...sits in the coop doorway to protect the females in side. He is really a nice little roo. (Although I think that they have started chasing the dogs for the 'fun' of it...poor little dogs..mean old chooks.)

To add to the comments about the legbar roosters. I have one who is a bit feisty and will chase my 7 year old if he is not careful and is protective of the hens
, but not a super considerate guy. The other rooster is a scaredy cat and will not defend the flock at all. He is the first one to run when they see a hawk. But he calls to the hens when he finds food and will pile up treats when I am passing them out and then let the hens have them. He is very endearing in tat way. Point being, the two are very different. I am not quite sure which is a more typical legbar rooster.
