The Legbar Thread!

Quoth, the Silkie broody, with three Ice Cream Legbars from ChicKat's rooster Ice and GaryDean26's hens (is that right?), and Quoth's own Silkie chick on the right. I just have to call them Ice Cream Legbars -- the name is too cool to pass up. Informally of course.

Chick A.

Chicks B (background) and C (foreground).

Quoth kicked the last three eggs out of the nest the day after hatch. My daughter stubbornly put them back, but Quoth kicked them out again the next day. I trust the broody, but stuck the eggs in the hatcher for one more day because I'm as stubborn as my daughter.
So glad to hear you have nice babies. Considering the distance...HEY - good hatch! Love those babies. The "Ice" genetics do contribute to good egg layers from my perspective. Keep those pictures flowing as they develop. Thanks!

Decided to throw some of the eggs from my production reds in the bator as I only have my cream legbar roo and they hatched out today interesting color almost a reddish tint. They are little cuties.. will be interesting to see what they end up being hoping for great layers of green colored eggs.. :)

fun i cant wait to see them grown. It will be fun to breed them back to your roo and see what happens when they get dbl cream.

Yep that is right. Ice has a flock of 8 pullets that I am managing right now while ChicKat spends most of her time on the road. There are two Ice Cream (Ice x Robin) Pullets in his flock, The other six pullets are from my 2012 breeding trio (including Tasha the crazy combed pullet that's my current Avatar).

I agree. I took some of the Ice x Robin pullet eggs to the Red, White & Blue 4-H club's Open Egg contest at the Poultry Show we were at on the 13th of April and they took the 3rd place ribbon. All of the pullets from that pair produce a much smoother shell than the pullets from our other 2012 Cream Legbar flock.

Here are pictures of my recent hatch.

These 3 are from Rinda's flock. As you can see, a girl a classic boy and a sport white that I am assuming is a boy given the white splotch on it's head. It did not appreciate my efforts to clean up the darker stuff near its beak to be able see that more clearly,

2 more boys. The ne on the left is from Rinda and the one on the right is from my own flock.

This is what I believe to be a girl from my eggs. She has a rough hatch and is covered with egg goo. 2 other chicks that were hatching from that incubator expired during zipping. I think that incubator is retiring. Probably to craigslist.

And here they all are together. 4 boys and 2 girls. I was looking for a great second rooster. And I have certainly got a variety to choose from as they grow out.

Nice hatch!! So you got 4 total from my eggs?
Yes, I had them in my Brinsea Eco 20 for the hatch and they all popped right out. Very fluffy and very cute. Pretty excited about adding some new variety to my flock. I learned a lot about hatching shipped eggs this time around. Mine hatched out in a Mini eco and I am not thrilled with it, so I will probably sell it.
