New to finding out about this breed. Doing tons of research, but having hard time finding local sources. And no incubator, yet .

Anywho looking forward to reading about these guys! (not gunna lie.....I haven't read the whole thread yet lol)

Anyone know how these guys do in hot weather?

They seem to do really well. I only had young ones last year so we will see how they do, I'm just north of you in Oklahoma. In the uk cream legbars are quite common. I have tried 2 batches of 6 eggs in an incubator. Both batches were posted to me. First batch one male hatched. Second batch no hatches at all. I also had my own eggs in incubator at same time, these had good success rate. I might try lowering the temperature a little next time.

The legbar eggs I incubated with a bunch of Basque eggs hatched out a day later than the Basques( which were right on time)

Welcome to the thread. Seems that my CLs and my EEs feel the heat a lot. My CLs were the first to start panting. We live in an exceptionally hot place..and we have had no decent rain for a very long time. 5-miles away it is cooler. We have a bit of a hill here - the clouds part, the rain passes north and south and the sun beats on the ground.

IMO when you get CLs - keep a close eye on the summer temperatures. A chicken's body cannot dispel the heat in excess of 104 degrees - and that is pretty common right here.

Day-before yesterday one of the outdoor thermometers registered 108 - We are about 5-degrees at least hotter than San Antonio announces on the radio/TV. If you have good deep shade, plenty of water, cooling breezes and even grass - it helps keep the chickens cool. Our grass has already burned to a crisp - and the ground just reflects the heat.

Every environment is different - but with the crests and the luxurious fluffy feathers, the background in the UK where it is more temperate than Texas... they need some protection from the heat. That being said, I haven't lost one to heat..... but I really try to keep them safe.

There are several good sources of quality Cream Legbars in Texas - some of the best IMO. These birds are very worth what it takes to raise them.

Where are you at in Texas, chickat? I apparently haven't done the research I though. Found all sorts of texasnpeople with them! I'm in New Braunfels

I tried to get to the membership form and it would not open, just got a page that said it was the enrollment form but nothing else until the "Pay Now" button for Paypal. Maybe it's a Firefox glitch?

I don't have any CL yet, had one failed hatch and another in progress I'll know results of in 2 weeks, but this shipment of eggs was delayed by the PO - shipped on a Wednesday, arrived not until the following Monday, so low hope. Some are under Silkie broodies, so if anything is going to hatch I'm betting it will be those. Fingers crossed.
