Dretd, Best of luck with the hatch! Everything's crossed for ya. Everyone has high hopes for a great hatch for you.

HEY there, ChicKat, ya ol' Sweet Pea!! How've you been? Still running around like a chicken with its... well.... How are your shows going? I've missed talking to you. Just kinda laying low... lurking, if you will. hahhaha Thanks for your answer about the Cotswolds. I was kind of surprised at the wide variety of colors in the breed.
I've been hatching out chicks, like you and Kestlyn advised. I think I may be starting to get some cream in the hackles of the little girls. They're still very young, so we'll see. I don't know if it's too early to tell, but it's looking like their tails have lowered to a nicer angle. Some of the 'tipping' Kestlyn had mentioned seems to be clearing up (at least on 4 - 8 wk old chicks), but on a couple of the 5/6 wk olds, it may be worse. Maybe they'll go with the young adult roos later. I have a really pretty girl, that Kestlyn said shows a little cream, and no dark tips on her chest, she hasn't started laying yet, but should any time now. Now that my older CL roos are now 5 months old, I may send you & Kestlyn new pics and get your opinions on who may be the lesser of those 2 and my yr. old roo. (so far the yr old is the only breeder I've used & the 1 hen that was laying is now molting - put the brakes on CL eggs for now) I did finally get a little rooster!! I can't wait to see how he grows up, he's one of the youngest. He's the first boy from that CL hen (out of about 15 - 20 chicks) whoops, maybe I should just e-mail you. good to hear from you! HOW great about your progress....I guess Kestlyn really did have a keen eye for an excellent breeding plan and I am glad to hear that it is going so well. Bravo - next time you get a chance...you know the old saying "pictures please"!!!!

Well... Muff Lady went to live with a nice man who took 3 of my pullets to share with his grandchildren..
i think she will have a good place there..

Unfortunately the lost pullet didn't make it, i think the shock was just too much for her to handle.. ..

so i am now back to my 4 new chicks, they are looking good!!

my two boys will be very bored for a while.. although in the marans pen i'm thinking maybe some
olive eggers might come out..

I have to say i am very confused about what my roos are supposed to look like.. they have gold
just coming in..

Help! I posted on the hatch thread. These are CCLB eggs. I'm on day 21 and this egg started 16 hrs ago and quit. This is only my 4th hatch and I don't know what to do. I've never seen blood oozing out. And now its dry. Is this chick a goner or should I help it out?

I would but thats just me. You can chip away the shell around the top like if it zipped itself and pull the top off. then let it bust out by itself. sometimes the skin on the inside is stuck and dried to it. if its over its eyes or somewhere that it cant move its wings or legs you will have to whip it off with a cotton ball soaked in warm water. Sometimes the membrane is so dry you may have to chip allot more of the shell off to get it out.

quick poll for all the breeders who have hatched and raised allot of CCL.

Would we as a group say that the tail angles is the biggest issue with the CCL in america. Fallowed secondly
by the comb then color.

My number 3 rooster is the only one that has kept a correct tail angle. He is smaller and has the worst
comb out of my 3 cream roos.

The other Two with better form and combs have had their tails raise up to almost 90 now.
They were fine but gradually have raised up.

Im thinking i might have to keep number 3 around just in case i cant correct the tail angles with my first two pairings .​

Kestlyn had warned me (back on Aug 2) that #3's larger crest could push his comb to one side (not good) and she was dead on the money. lol Also he shows more barring on his neck (right?) so that may be an indicator of a single dose of the barring gene (also not good for cream??)... Do I have that right? (breeding him with I think #2 doesn't show as much barring as #3, and has a straight comb. They are both 5 month old. (4-11-2013) Does #2 look like he may be double barred, or just less barred than #3? I have an older rooster that KP believes is dbl barred, but he has a couple of his own issues. Carries his tail pretty high. So what do y'all think about these 2? I was telling Kathy, I finally hatched a boy (8-16), and I can't wait to see how he feathers in. He's from the other rooster (not pictured). Looking forward to hearing back from y'all.

I have helped a number of my chicks on occasion. This is a very helpful thread that provides some really good information if you need to help a chick hatch.

WOW your tail angles look really low and you have longer backs too. They say that UK has a real problem getting straight combs and that is difficult to achieve...so maybe worry about coloration down the road...and go for straight comb....

If it were me, and I had to choose between these two -- I would go with number 1 if he is also on the left in the last pict and has that great tail angle and long back.

I will be really interested to hear what the other viewers advise you. They look really good for so young IMO! Are they crowing? Do you have them with girls or in a grow out bachelor pad/pen? One other thing I would select for is well behaved, good watcher and gentle with his hens......

I'd have to agree, go in.... carefully, but it's going to be the only chance it has, from the way it sounds. Do you hear anything .. peeping, tapping.. ?? keep the membrane moist, not wet over its nose, just like Steen said. stop if you see red veins in the path that you're peeling back, chipping ... move to another area, if you can.
