The Legbar Thread!

I have raised many breeds, my latest project involved extracting the Dilute(Di) genetics from Buff Cochins, and at one point I was introducing the blue egg gene to the Production type white leghorns, but I dont have enough land for them.. my lates project is a Parthenogenetic Hen that was able to hatch 1 Male out of 10 eggs she brooded.

well, I think Fibromelanotic, blue egg laying birds that have not direct blood line to the Silkies is a good "Native to the Americas" type of breed if one desires to keep this type of birds... I had them at one point, but the constant broodies that went broody after just laying 6 eggs and their wild nature keept me at bay... I loved the cochin nature and the hand raised spent Production type Reds pullets...

The bird came from greenfire

cwesson Did you purchase this boy directly from GFF or was it through another breeder via eggs or live birds? It would be interesting to see what he looked like as a chick if you had any photos. He is a pretty boy but non-standard in his feathering in a manner I have not seen much off before. Some of your girls seem to be close to the standard.

This is very cool. I know turkeys can be parthenogeneic and I had read reports on early development in chicken embryos that died early on but I have never heard of anyone getting a parthenogenic chicken egg to hatch! What breed is she?

Oh and to use a famous quote: 'pictures or it never happened'

Finally got a pic of the most cream colored pullet I produced this year. I love her type and even her body color.

...only problem is that her mother was a phoenix.

Also, ignore her funky eye, I took loads of pics and this was the only non-blurred pic, I think she was mid blink & mid bite
