The Legbar Thread!

I am looking for 4 CLB pullets and one Roo. Can anyone point me in the right direction? I have one little pullet, the only chick from 16 eggs I tied to hatch. I either try hatching again or buy chicks.

I have day old's hatching weekly I can ship, but no older ones at the moment. I will PM you.

I wish I would have been keeping track of weights so far. I was out rebanding chicks and realized my jumbo cockerels weigh as much as the marans cockerels. I can't wait to see how these guys turn out. Because we had issues with brooders and incubators this spring, I think I only have about 15-20 legbar pullets and about as many cockerels. Now that they are older, I am starting to see some big differences in crest size. I have a few pullets with show silkie sized crests and a couple large crested males, only 1 chick has a teeny crest (will be culled) and the rest are about average.

Not the best of pictures but here they are. There are 7 pullets and 4 roosters. I can't wait to see these darlings grow up.

Madamwlf and FlamingChicken-
so very sorry to hear about your losses.

SweetDreamin' - 'whew' Glad that everything IS Okay. Sounds like making the 'sport' a Federal offence has some value IMO.
Rinda-- you are a wealth of info! Thanks!!
:O)

Thanks so much, Rinda! My chick's poo kinda looked like the 2nd Negative pic (which looks scary!). That is a very informative site (I bookmarked it)! At least I hv Corid now to keep in my med cabinet. My vet had to order it... Apparently, there aren't any big chick farms where I live anymore. He said he used to go thru a ton of Corid, but when they made cock fighting a Federal offense, all the "big breeders" went away. Amazing, right??!!

Oh yes The Chicken Chick is fabulous. I may not agree with her on everything but she is very well informed and explains things through. I follow her on FB, too, she posts some cute stuff.

My JR roo at 28 days

JR roo on left (blue band) and D Line roo on right, The JR is a little lighter and the D Line is a tad bigger (but barely, the JR is catching up). Sorry, no way to weigh them yet!

One of the 4 Line D girls @ 28 days. The girls from both lines look real similar, but the D's are all a little bigger. And 1 JR girl and 1 Line D girl both look to hv some gold in the hackles already. All hv crests: some big, some smaller. Both Roos hv crests, and their combs look a little skewed already. :-(. But, other than that, so far, so good! They all seem to be a good, consistent quality.

Oh, and something else I noticed is the JR birds are wider across their tails when looking from the top, and their tails are not as pinched from the side. I'm thinking that's a good thing! Too early for me to tell re: squirrel tails yet.....
