@sweetdreaming don't worry about the comb yet. It is very common for them to wrinkle at this age and then straighten out as they mature.

Anyone have stubs pop up yet? One of my oldest cream cockerels has 2-3 stubs on each leg. He'll be culled but I was just curious if anyone else has had them yet.
Also, I've had a couple people ask for pics of the combs of the rose combed chicks. I was sorting birds and grabbed a pic of a good rose combed cockerel and a culled rose comb cockerel that had an inverted spike and a smooth top.

Last year when I was breeding my other rooster that was taken by a predator I had one person hatch a chick with a stub. I've not seen any in all 3 years myself and I've hatched a slew of birds so I wish I still had him to test so I could see it but I personally have not hatched or seen any and only the one from all the eggs I've shipped. I've been looking and checking ever since but nothing so I'm assuming whatever it was died with him. I would think with my closed flock, with exceptions for Greenfire additions yearly, I'd see something but nope, nada, zip so not sure what to make of it.

yes, if I remember correctly but which thread I have no idea. I think as folks start to breed forward we will see some recessive issues as with other breeds.

We arrived home with the new Legbars, Kestlyn. When London crowed the first time ALL of the roosters on the place started crowing! I notice the pullets are a much lighter color than Anne. Oh, and the egg we talked about was a double yolker.

One cockerel had three on one leg only. I thought they had fallen out, but I was checking his comb last month and I could see the tiniest stub. He is about 9 months. I have hatched 4 pullets and 5 cockerels from him so far this spring and no one has any stubs.

@enola: these are tiny feather stubs that can appear on the feet or legs. Unlike true feathered feet which is a dominant trait, these are very tiny feather remnants and the trait is recessive. I have had/hatched several Welsummers with feather stubs and they were far more obvious in that breed. The stubs tend to become less apparent as the bird matures. I would never have been able to see the one remaining stub except I had him up close. It looked like a piece of dander until you look at it from the side and then it is more obvious. Let me see if I can find a picture.

Here the tiny little bugger is highlighted on the outside of the left foot. You would never see it unless you were looking really hard for it.

Here it is in the chick. I think the stub stayed about the same size as it was in the chick as the cockerel grew.

Question...

I purchased some Cream Legbar eggs...one male hatched with appropriate color. Another male hatched that appears to be a black sex-link. All eggs that I received were blue.

Is it possible to get a black sex-link chick from a CL?? The seller referred to it as a "throw back"....
