I do a lot of shipping on Amazon so kind of have an idea how the post office is working. With priority mail going between coastal states, they are shipping them by air vs, shipments going up to 1500 miles are being trucked. For example, if I were to ship from Chicago to San Francisco, it goes via air route and the product gets there in 2 days. Sometimes I ship at 5:00 PM on Wednesday and it is delivered Friday morning. Whereas, if I ship from Chicago to Norwalk, CT, it takes 3, 4, sometimes 5 days. So its definitely being trucked.I have noticed more delays this year. It used to be that everything to D.C./MD/VA was 1 day because of the government offices. A box of chicks would be dropped off at 5pm in Florida and arrive at my Post Office at 7am the next morning. Now it is taking several days. I think they must be consolidating routes and shipments to save money. With shipped eggs, I have been getting mixed results. One shipment was 11 out of 12 hatched (shipped from NJ to MD). Another was 1 out of 12 hatched (shipped from TN to MD).
My first batch was shipped from just a few hours away and I got 5/10 with 3 cockerels. This batch of eggs came from IN to FL and I got them in 1 1/2 days, 9 made it to lockdown 2 hatched (pullets), the rest of the eggs are still in the incubator but I don't think any more are going to hatch (day 22).I do a lot of shipping on Amazon so kind of have an idea how the post office is working. I am pretty sure the issue is probably trucked vs by air. I got eggs shipped to me twice from NC so they were trucked and my hatch rate was 2 out of 14 once and 3 out of 12 the other time.
My question for people with bad hatch rates is that what percentage of their chicks were female vs, male? I am only talking about CCL chicks. 4 of the 5 I was able to hatch were females for me.
Congrats! And very cute chicks. Do you have more pics you can post from above showing their backs and tops of the heads?
Here are pics of the chic in questionCongrats! And very cute chicks. Do you have more pics you can post from above showing their backs and tops of the heads?
Looking at this specific pic Im tempted to say female in the back and male in the front. I only say this because the eyeliner on the front chick doesn't seem as dark and defined as what Im used too.
