Thanks for the opinion! I got her from Baxter Barn- I think his source is ideal, but not sure where he got the CL's from. I think her tail is a bit high? But we did get her for eggs, not showing. I have thought of taking her to a show just to represent the breed with no intention of winning anything.

I think that is a great idea. Helping represent the breed and get them out there to help promote Cream Legbar is fantastic. We need more people will to help out like that. You never know she might do well.

That would be fun for you to take her to a show - especially if she is a chicken that likes the 'lime light'. -- No one will win anything at a Poultry show for a Cream Legbar - because the breed isn't accepted - but some shows have a 'backyard chicken' category for chickens unrecognized by the APA -- In that category one of my Isbars (another rare and unrecognized breed) won a ribbon for 3rd place...and that is always fun to bring home and hang up.

Check out your local shows-- the references page on the Cream Legbar Club's web page has a link to Poultry Show central. One probably requirement would be to have a P/T test for your flock -- Because CLs are so unusual -- I wouldn't be surprised a bit if your pullet did win a prize if you put her in at a bout 6-months old or so.

ETA - always good for the breed to get them in the public eye so folks can see how cool they are!!

Thanks for the insight and opinions everyone! I didn't know about PT testing, looked it up. Fortunately there is the Avian center run by WSU here in Puyallup who does the testing! Yes, it is required for shows. thanks for the insight

I will see if I can get to a show this year some time.

I recently purchased two cream legbar from Meyer. One has a larger comb than the other but both are gaining a salmon colored chest. Maybe a stupid question but, is the salmon chest strictly a female trait or can a rooster have one as well? Or is it most likely a faster growing chick in comparison?

Legbars are supposed to be auto sexing, the females at hatch should have very defined chipmunk stripes and the males will have more blurred striping and have a white spot on top of their head. As they get older the females will be darker with the salmon colored chest and the males will be barred black /grey to white. I have some older birds (15 weeks ) and a couple younger (1 week ) but I can't remember how noticeably different they are at three weeks. A picture would help. I personally have never gotten anything true to breed from Meyer. One of the problems with hatchery birds is the auto sexing traits can be poor to non existent.

Ill try to attach more photos later. I'm on mobile and it's acting screwy. When they arrived both looked female though one was a bit darker. Then one sprouted a comb. I've read some males can look female as hatchlings and vice versa. I'm hoping it just hit a growth spurt sooner because of the colors. Here's a photo from yesterday. Mostly of the comb but the breast color shows a little.

That's a pullet. Here's a picture of 5 pullets and 2 cockerels, I don't know the age, but I hope this helps.
