wondering about the total rejection of MyPetChicken Cream Legbars... I never bought chickens or eggs from them but I have bought a lot of supplies, and I find innovative things when I go to their website that I wouldn't have known existed...fun stuff too. The people have always been nice that I have dealt with -- and there is a TON of information that they provide---and they also are one of the very few places that will ship a small number of chicks.

The idea of buying from an individual who raises them is the best route -- but if that isn't a reality in your location - and you are not able to hatch your own eggs -- from someone who cares enough about the breed to work with the CL Club -- and as a bonus gets listed on the Club's website.... I wonder why you should be deprived of raising them because the ones you get won't be show quality. To my knowledge there aren't that many Cream Legbars being shown ....and no matter who's CL you would get, they would still require 'working on the breed' to improve it IMO.

Not everyone has showing as a goal.....some folk just want to have the CL in their flock and get the blue eggs. If it were me,I might take a chance on getting the MyPetChicken birds...again rooboo has gotten chickens from them - or was it a hatchery? and not been happy with the chickens -- but isn't the statistic that only 1-in-100 chickens is truly worthy of going to a show? so to expect to the that 1% anywhere, top breeder, show breeder, next door neighbor -etc. - is very optimistic. That being said -- if MPchicken would cooperate with you and show you photos of the parent birds -- and you think you could start you Cream Legbar adventure there (in the event that you don't find a breeder to work with) -- then I would say Go for it....

I would just like to clarify what I posted here in the past. When you are talking about my pet chicken, you are actually talking about Meyer Hatchery. My pet chicken does not have any birds on site, if you go to their site you'll notice that there is a statement on there that says you cannot pick up birds at their location. The reason is because everything they sell ships out of Meyer Hatchery in Ohio. They don't say that, but I actually asked Meyer about that and they confirmed it. I had noticed something months ago when I was looking for certain breed availability, I happened to check both websites and when I would click on the availability lists on each site I noticed that both my pet chicken and Meyer Hatchery had the exact same numbers available for every breed. ( I tend to notice little details like that ). As far as the quality of their stock, I had received infected chicks from them that 18 out of 28 chicks died before and shortly after receiving them. I had also received a box of hatching eggs that 10 out of 42 arrived broken. The eggs were not marked as to the various breeds and they were happy to send me replacement eggs but it was just random guessing on which breeds. In the end, I ended up with to many of one and not enough of the others, with hatch days a week apart. After the chicks from the other shipment died they tried to blame it on the postal service, but I took the carcasses to the university of Wisconsin diagnostic lab and had them tested and found out that they had infected yolk sacs from the hatchery. After all that my plans were set back months, because they couldn't even replace the dead chicks, they had been pre sold to others. I recently posted about the black copper marans, welsummers, and blue ameraucanas that survived to point out that the egg color is not correct for the breeds, so I would be cautious about expecting nice blue eggs from their cream legbars, you may end up with green or brown eggs. The worst part about that is that you won't know for about six months! I have actually had very good success buying chicks from greenfire farms on the rare breed auction site, you can usually pick up birds for about half the price of their normal selling price. I have never received a dead chick from them, although I have lost a few chicks days or weeks later, but I would consider that normal. Over 100 chicks received losing less than 1 out of every ten. Sorry for being long winded, but I just wanted to be clear. And I will probably never get over my distaste for Meyer. I have purchased birds from other hatcheries when I wanted generic birds and they were fine.

I don't know how many birds you're looking for, but you may want to check out rare breed auction site, there are many breeders selling on that site. I personally have won several auctions, primarily from greenfire farms out of Florida because of their reputation. They usually have a couple auctions each week for cream legbars. I hope this is helpful.

Same as here. I actually just purchased a batch of Bielefelders for less than 10.00 each. And they usually put extras in, and sometimes the extras are of a different breed. That's why I bought the Bielefelders, I received one lone Bielefelder chick in a previous order and I liked him so much I had to get more. That's how they got me! Lol

I'll give you an idea of how many breeds I already have; Cream legbars, Black copper marans, Lavender orpingtons, Welsummers, Light Sussex, Coronation Sussex, Twentse, Sulmtalers, Silkies, Silver Laced Wyandottes (bantam and large fowl) , Buff orpingtons, Ameraucanas (wheaton and blue ), Buff Sebrights, Rhode Island Reds, Barred Rock, a few hybrids, Red Golden pheasantspheasants, Lady Amhearst pheasants, a peacock and peahen, and now Bielefelders. Oh, and bantam Cochins. A lot of them are just for multi colored eggs, and some are going to be phased out, but I have my hands full with what I have. I do have my eye on one more breed, Isbars, they are true green egg layers, which would allow me to get green eggs without making Easter Eggers. Are you interested in a Silver Laced bantam trio, full grown and laying eggs every day?
