That's a great looking egg! I only have one CL because i heard they aren't consistent layers. I'm glad one of yours is earning her keep!

Our flock of 4 girls consistently gives me an average of 3 eggs per day. They are mostly nice sized, too. We are selecting the largest eggs to hatch. We will have hatching eggs available shortly.

I thought I would post some photos of my legbar chicks. They are 9 weeks old now. I can see a big difference between the one that started out very dark and the one that started out very light.

The lighter pullet is the one I got from racinchickens.











The cockerel. He is brother to the darker pullet.




And, I finally got a real legbar chick from the first breeder I went to who accidentally sold me the silver laced Wyandotte mix chick because she thought it was a legbar. Since I already have one dark pullet and one light, I tried to get a middle of the road shade from her. I think this new chick is kind of dark too, though.

Just wanted to share some pics from my latest hatch. Its still on-going because I am trying to isolate the hen that has the white sport gene. My trio that produces white chicks has two hens Hope and Sheila. I isolated them for egg laying and collected at least 7 eggs from each.

Here are the results so far:

Sheila, Set-7, 1 Quitter, 3 hatched, 3 still in the incubator. Out of the 3 hatched one is a white sport. So at least she is confirmed for white gene.
Hope- Set-10 , 1 Quitter 5 hatched, 4 still in the incubator. No whites so far. 1 boy and 4 girls.

The boy is a little lighter than I usually get from my flock. Also the one in the middle had a swollen neck as compared to others. I don't know if it was the result of hatching stress or was it congenitally a thicker neck. She also has a bigger head and almost a vault on her head.

I think I will be done on Friday or Saturday. This hatch was a little crazy, I had 6 eggs pip on the wrong side. I understand about the shipped eggs with wonky air cells but 2 of the wrong pips were Legbar eggs. I rescued one Legbar yesterday and the 2nd one is still working on it but seems stuck.

Would any temp variation cause bad pips? I know between Day 17 and 20, their temp fell to 97 degrees because of a cheap hatcher and then I had to move them back to the incubator on Day 20. Thanks to that, some of my eggs hatched on Day 22 and 1 on Day 23.
