They say that birds can't feel the "heat" of the cayenne and that it makes for an inhospitable environment for the worms. If you feed scratch grains the cayenne will at least keep the mice, rats and squirrels out of the feed.

Hope she lays lots of pretty blue eggs for you! You hit the jackpot on that mystery chick from MPC.

Your birds look beautiful to me! They have great type, tail angle isn't too high like I see on a lot of CLs. Great color, not too much chestnut color in the shoulder of the male. The cockerel has a nice straight comb, not crooked or floppy. The pullet has the desired cream color in her hackles and no gold, that I've read can be difficult to acheive. Kudos on your superb breeding of these fine birds!

Beautiful birds! And congratulations on doing so well at the show! I'm sure it feels wonderful to have your breeding efforts and hard work recognized. That would be very exciting. I have never shown poultry, but it definitely is something I would love to do one of these days. I have a lot to learn and a long way to go before then. Thanks for the comments. Even when you think you know what you are looking for it some times takes a 2nd set of eyes to point out something obvious that you have totally missed. Plus what I think I should be looking for changes every 6 months so it it really nice to have other people comment so that I know if I have moved closer to the center of further way in the last 6 months.![]()
I ended up taking this boy to the show. I got confused by the "c" and "k" on the cage tags for cock and cockerel and accidentally put this cock in the cockerel cage. So you got judged against cockerels that were a year younger than him but place first of the three entries.
This hen is my favorites in the flock but I pullet out three hens and choose decided to take the other two and leave this one home. I much of choose well because my first Choice Hen took Best of Breed and my 2nd Choice (who I debating back and forth with this one and finally let my 7 year old choose for me) took Reserve of breed.
This is the one that took Reserve of Breed. I though she posed quite nicely.
Her cousin who took best of breed wasn't as photogenic.
