This hen is nearly 7 months old. So she has not been on medicated feed for a very long time. Please keep the think tank working I need all the suggestions I can get.

We decided to put our hen down and have a necropsy preformed on her. She was doing no better or worse just lingering. I did not want to see her suffer anymore. Will let everyone know what we find out. She was 7 months old and had been extremely healthy her whole life. She is the hen that I posted pictures of not to long ago.

I am rather new to raising chickens myself, but I have friends who used to raise them back in Uzbekistan. They would give their chickens kefir (a probiotic filled drink, similar to yogurt) when they were under the weather. I make my own kefir and give it to my own chickens. Fortunately I have not had any get sick yet, but I can tell you they always lay better the day after I give them kefir. If you are able to make it yourself, it is much superior to the stuff you find at the market. All you need is some starter and some non-homogenized (preferrably non-pasteurized) milk. I'd be happy to send you the starter if you like - just PM me your address.

madamwlf your birds are really pretty and they look so cute at that age.
sunnydalefarms Your guy looks reallly nice and big and healthy.

My guys were a bit flighty at the start and the female was a great escape artist but they have adjusted well and are now in the big coop group for the winter. All my girls have slowed way down already so I guess it'll be late winter to early spring before I can think about hatching out any birds. I did hear from GFF and what was seen by some as a comb issue has been remedied (they really do stand behind their birds), but he is such a handsome guy and his color is so good he'll be sticking around here all the same, seeing that they all share some of the same basic genes. GFF has a another bloodline they are also working with now so I'm thinking of splurigng on a couple more females this spring as I REALLY want a few of their Chocolate Orps and intend to have them (poor DH). Anyway, I can't wait to see the eggs and then what pops out of them when I can get them in the bator next year. No names yet but hubby says we should wait and see who makes it through the winter first.

I will be putting Petroleum Jelly on everyone's combs this year as it's supposed to be a doosey of a winter season this year and the combs on these Legbars are HUGE! Take care everyone.
