The Legbar Thread!

Pics
There were no takers because the seller ended the auction early. This is the same seller that was caught in early February listing auctions for Rhodebar hatching eggs for immediate shipment. GFF confirmed that none of the Rhodebars they had sold could possibly be old enough to be laying by early February. And now you think that just because they listed the auction that they actually had laying Blue Isbars? I don't believe it. I could be wrong but I just don't believe they have laying hens. Look at the similarities between these two auctions. Remember, this seller immediately closed the Rhodebar action when confronted with the fact that he did not have laying Rhodebar hens.

As I stated before, this seller REFUSED to provide pictures of his laying Rhodebar hens. I dare anyone to get proof that he has either laying Legbars or laying Blue Isbars.

I didn't make the connection before, that this is the same seller who previously tried to sell eggs they didn't have, and who now is selling eggs with a 20+ week wait. Sure hatcheries might have a wait, but I put more trust in a legitimate business than I do with an individual seller on eBay. Just my 2 cents (and then some, cause this seller is just really irking me big time).
Report it to ebay. There's a side of this that begs starting an association or club. Should it be for autosexing breeds, since many of you have the other ones. Should it be for the cream legbars? Should it be a breeder membership to promote the breed or a seller's forum to promote an association of sellers, or some sort of blend. I live in northern, ca. I'd like to set up a booth at a poultry show (with others) next spring to show off the breed and provide education. The Stockton shows in January. Anyone interested in doing this with me or is thinking about doing somethong similiar?

I had to check this out, and he/she has other auctions up again, with pics. Now, whose pics they are, I have no clue. It is very typical of some folks on ebay to steal other people's pictures, I've had it happen to me several times! See if you may recognize the birds as someone elses. Look at this auction, and he has others too. The major red flag to me is the 20 - 22 week waiting period. IMO there are way too many things that can go wrong in that length of time, and by the time the waiting period is up, if this is not an honest person, you will have NO recourse through ebay, PayPal, or even your credit card company!! Buyer beware!

Looks like they are doing well! Thanks for sharing the photo!

FYI - I will have a juvenile pair (6 weeks) - coming up for sale soon. :)

Take care,
Richard

Here is a fun picture of Cheyanna, my niece wearing our chicks! On her right shoulder is Lemon Chalet, Big Bird and Norbert on her L shoulder. Left to right on her arms are Arnold, Thursday, Briony, Midnight and Pitta. They are about 6 weeks old. The girls all have the start of crests. Arnold is twice the size of Norbert and Briony and has a huge floppy comb. Chalet and Big Bird are the Lemon Cuckoo Orpingtons. Briony has odd feathers on her Left wing, they stick straight up. It will be interesting to see what happens as she grow. They are all so friendly and are growing like weeds. I am going to have to move them to the coop soon. They are getting crowded in their cage.

People like the guy in the auction are the ones that irk me. Selling ahead of a market trend and betting that they will 'win' at the time of shipment providing the market price is inline or above with the auction price. These are typically the people that woke up one day and thought about selling chicks and 'printing money'. They are breeders out there that care much more about the breed (bird) itself and whether the customer gets what they pay for.

Hence is why I ship extras in eggs or chicks. Making money is nice - but I would rather break even at the end of the day and have many happy customers then make a large profit and fail to meet the delivery expectations of the customer.

I have sold quite a few legbars to people here in the forum. :)

Take care,
Richard

This is probably a mistake to bring this up but it is bugging me. Is someone here the person who is selling cream Legbars as pre-sales on eBay? If so, I invite polite discussion. There are no current auctions just recently completed ones if you don't know what I am referring to.

I just find the concept strange. I personally wouldn't pay for something today in hopes that I would actually get it several months from now. I also think the wording of the listing is nasty, implying us that those of us with the funds to buy the birds and wait to sell eggs until we actually have some, are "just out for the money." We have a right to make our money back. I think these pre-sales are the reason for the going price of CL eggs being as low as it is now. Heck, at this rate, the people who are paying this person $44.00 a dozen now could wait a few weeks and probably get them for less. To quote the seller, "I personally do not believe in the necessity to charge "an arm and a leg" or to "nickel and dime" people just so that they can enjoy these rare types of birds." It also seems strange that this seller just changed his ID last month.

Just sayin'

Mary

I feel like this is comparing apples to oranges...I know nothing of goats so please bear with me, is there a breed that was used to create the French Alpine that could be used as the cross out? if not then I don't think this analogy relates

I agree with this, you really can't compare breeding goats and chickens. I do raise goats- my pygoras were originally a cross between an angora and a pygmy. To help the breed by increasing the gene pool we are allowed to breed back to either of the parent breeds as long as the offspring aren't more then 75% of either and have required traits. I bring this up because we are going to need to increase the current gene pool somehow and crossing out to the parent breeds and then culling is a great way to do this. Especially since it sounds like a lot of the existing flock of cream legbars overseas have gotten away from the standard. With chickens you can breed and make improvements in so little time compared to goats, so your breeding plan is going to be different. I have no current plans to bring in new blood, but am glad others are thinking about it.

I am so sad that my two girls have not developed crests since that was a characteristic of the breed I particularly like. My girls were hatched on or about 2/18 and came from Greenfire and I think (recollection is spotty) their leg bands were blue. Would anyone here with crested ladies from a different line be willing to trade eggs later in the year? If so, please PM me.

My chicks hatched at the same time as yours. They are all developing at different rates. The third female is just starting to develope her crest. It looks like the feathers at the point of her middle stripe are wet or messy. Very subtle. Hopefully yours will start to show a crest soon.

Here is some photos of some cream legbar juveniles. I sent these chicks to a customer a while back and she just sent me some updated photos of them. It looks like they are turning out pretty nicely.
