The Legbar Thread!

Pics
ALL 6 of my Legbar eggs are pipping!! I ordered 6 Cream Legbar eggs along with 6 Olive Eggers about 21 days ago & here it is the night before the 21st day and ALL SIX are pipping! I am so thrilled I never thought I would get this awesome of a turn out. I tried to take a pic through the steamy windows but it did not turn out too good.

How are the Olive Eggers doing?

Not a single OE pipping, but it is still early, they are not due until tomorrow. Hoping they develop slower, who knows. As to the Legbars though, after seeing those pics of the light ones I am really anxious now to see the chicks as they hatch! I can only see one through the zipline so far & it looks dark. I never heard of a Legbar that color, I wonder how you'd sex them.

I was just thinking, these must be some really healthy eggs though because I don't have a fancy incubator, They spent the first 18 days in the Hovabator with the egg turner & almost no water, the 18th day they moved to the Little Giant to hatch in an egg carton. And they traveled all the way from Maryland in a box! To have all 6 Legbars pipping is so awesome... the OE we'll see

I am not an expert and there are much more knowledgable people (ie GARY DEAN) but there was some discussion on one of the forums about the gold and silver lines of cream legbar and how it was thought that the gold trait had been bred out of the Greenfire lines. I am wondering if it popped up here or if this is something new that has turned up. I will be interested to see how other weigh in. It just goes to show that anything can happen with genetics and if this showed up in my birds, I would be thrilled.

Is that possible from Cream Legbars???

Could I have hit the genetic jackpot and maybe hatched some Albino Legbars

Hi Thespoiledchicken,

correct me if I am wrong, but wouldn't albino have no pigment? The eyes would be red, like red-eyed white rabbits, and the legs would have no pigment. Keep us posted for the traits that they develop. -- One of the cream legbar advantages is autosexing at hatch time. -- I think an albino can come along randomly in any genetics, but if a cream legbar was albino, would it be possible to determine the sex?

You sure have an interesting thing to present. Please update this thread as you find out more and as your chicks develop.

Congratulations! That is SO exciting. Can't wait to see pictures of the chicks that you get.
