Nice! I like the big wrinkle in the comb over his beak. He's a handsome guy. So, did the newsletter say they're shipping out birds from this generation this year?

For those of you that already have the legbars to maturity, how are they producing? Good layers? Early or late to start? Big eggs? What's the color been like on eggs?

He is pretty impressive. The newsletter didn't say when they would be available but the newsletter was about how they are focusing on the 2013 lines. I think I may need some of this guys daughters to add to my little flock.

It must be hard to be an Alaska heritage chicken breeder. Does any one ship to Alaska?

NO. LOL, well, really I don't know. I was working on Delawares when I came up with this name (and Silver Fox rabbits, which are a heritage breed, too.) I've been living in the city the last two years though and can't have roosters, so that's been my primary roadblock.

I'll have lots of space (even for roosters) and be within road tripping distance of a lot of really fantastic resources once I get back down South.

My legbar hen is laying extremely well. She lays about 2 weeks then skips a day. She started laying right at 6 months. She never did lay any pullet eggs. She started laying large eggs right from the get-go and hasn't quit since. The color on my eggs is a nice soft blue. They are not a green although some people have said their legbars are laying a green-ish color.

I do not know if greenfire will be shipping out birds from this line this year. I doubt it though. I would guess they are going to breed birds from different lines together to improve their already existing flock to the best of their ability and then sell to the public.

I got Green Fire Farms Newletter yesterday and here is the picture and description of their new Rooster.

Our first generation generally produced large, healthy birds that were prolific egg layers. But, the combs on the roosters were a little too floppy, and some of the birds had a little too much chestnut in their coloration. In the second generation new blood was blended into the flock to address these flaws. But, the second generation birds sometimes lacked a prominent crest and tended to have pale yellow legs. The third generation includes unrelated birds that have prominent crests and bright yellow legs. The roosters from these birds are handsome, muscular chickens, and the hens are very productive and reliable egg producers. You can see a third generation legbar rooster here. Note the prominent crest and bright yellow legs.

So I ck the last two eggs nothing they didn't even start.

yes I did candle them but just didn't really look was hoping.
But it does look like there is a rooster in my area.

I don't candle until day 18. I had four Cream Legbars eggs shipped from Greenfire farm and candled them a few days ago and only one had anything in it. I opened the empty ones up to confrim and none of them started either. I had four of the other breeds from my dozen assorted rare breed greenfire eggs hatch today, and two of the remaining four eggs are still working on it including the cream legbar egg. I hope I am as lucky as you and get a pullet.

Greenfire started shipping from a 3rd blood line in January of this year. The 3rd blood line may be out of the cock in this month's newsletter. Back in January others confirmed that Greenfire told them that they had 3 bloodlines. If anyone out there has clarification let me know.

People have been saying for months that they got birds from the 3rd line. It is so hard to get accurate information. I am pretty sure I have stock from lines 1 and 2. Would like to add #3 but only if I know for sure that is what I am getting.

Molly, did you get eggs from me last time you were over? I can't remember! I had four in the incubator and two hatched. The other two were late quitters. I think I need to make some adjustments to the Brinsea. I may put some more eggs in to see how it goes. I have an order for Isbar chicks so I could put them in with those. My coops are in such upheaval from all the broodies that it is just crazy! It is surprising how it had affected egg production. Well just look at this. There's five of them in two nest boxes. Box on the left, girl on the right is a cream legbar. She is jostling for space with Judge Judy. Ridiculous. Don't they know this is costing me money? No money means no treats!

Your girls are crazy...You take the best pics. I always get a kick out of your posts How long does Broodie last? Have any of your Cream Legbars ever hatch her own eggs?
I got Isbars and Icelandics from you last time, both are developing nicely
I haven't gotten Cream Legbars since incubator melt down... Would like to try again.
