The Legbar Thread!

That pullet is just adorable. I'm in love. Have you considered putting her in the on-line poultry show. There is one just for cream legbars...and I am astonished how few entries there are. Maybe everyone is waiting for the Sept 1 deadline. I think my clb female's preferred appearance is just that type of crest.

My wife and I took a ton of photos a few weeks back to submit for this, but none of them were to our liking. When then got busy and never go any more photos taken. We will make an effort to get some more photos before the deadline, but will likely only have entries in 2-3 categories.

Ok so I feel so stupid, at hatch this had all the markings of a pullet its such a rooster. I havent looked at her in a week or a little more becasue Ive been sick. But heres the picture of it. Now I need eggs so I can hatch some females, or just let this dream go and let the rooster Igot from Annies mom go too.. Im so heart broken.
Any how heres a picture of him he has a wild crest too..

I got the same thing. Meaning I got these same eggs off of Ebay and only had one hatch, the chick had the distinct coloring of a female exept that the down was quite red. Then as the chick grew it became evident that it was a male and he now looks just like your rooster, he just has more red and the coloring on his neck is red barred like the red on this one's wings. He also has a gigantic spiky looking crest that is super cool. It must be at least 2 inches & stands straight up like spikes. I am not going to use him in the Legbar pen because he looks so different than my other Legbars and he was not sexable at hatch. I posted pics of him earlier in the thread a month or so back and was going to post recent pics but my camera has problems. He is already mating with the EE hens. He actually looks somewhat like the Rhodebar pics I have seen of the roos, mosly red barred, but he was sold as a Legbar egg, & the egg was blue. Or maybe it was green tinted, I do not remember. Do you remember if the eggs were more green than blue?

Speaking of egg color my only Legbar hen to lay so far layed a blue egg the first day and then a green one ever since. Very disappointing after waiting for months, then to top it off I wanted to incubate them to have some back up hens & not a one is fertile. My Legbar roo is in a pen with 6 hens, & other eggs from this pen are fertile- every one has developed- but not a single Legbar egg has been fertile. Taken aback I observed for awhile & the rooster doesn't go near this hen, she actually attacks him! So needless to say my Legbar endeavors have been disappointing lately. Guess I'll have to wait to hatch my own baby Legbars.

But on the bright side, you'll have lots to choose from to select the best for your keeper(s).

Very true. I already had one young roo from eggs hatched from a friend. I'm new to breeding the CLs and have read up a bunch but would need lots of help choosing. Of course that would mean I'd post lots of pics too! I'll post a pic of my current one shortly.

Yep I only had one hatch too out of I think6 or 8 cant remember, the egg was blue and they were all on the smaller side. So Im thinking they are not pure and also this guy will go to the auction this weekend. Was thinking of keeping him but I want pure and I also have one that came from Green Fire Farms thanks to AnniesMom. I know I just cant say thank you enough..

would anyone keep him and if so why? I do like the crest and thats it..

Nope, I wouldn't keep him.

He appears to be single barred. That would explain the chipmonk stripes at hatch and the dark colors on the bird. If so, his offspring wouldn't be autosexing. He would only produce chipmonk striped chicks (Male & Female).

I am really wondering where CindyLee53 is getting these eggs from. With that wild cresting I wonder if someone didn't use a Cream Barbanter to create an "American" Cream Legbar and pass it off as a UK heritage Cream Legbar. At any rate something doesn't seem right with the CindyLee53 strain.

Uh oh. Looks like all girls to me! Someone forgot the boys, lol. I called them and it was handled right away, they'll be shipping out the boys next week. Here's a couple of pics of the girls.

Oh funny! I am getting a good laugh at reading the board this morning. Puglady has all girls and Zgoat has too many boys. I have an extra cockerel too. Too bad we cant all get together and do a swap! I hope they send something besides cockerels. Maybe a couple more pullets to make up for their error. Post pictures when they arrive.
