The Legbar Thread!

laugh but I have been thinking of a egg card and a feather card a comb card and foot card etc. That we all say what colors we want. We are here, we are the first breeders. We need to be the ones to set the standards that we will presen,t as we lobby our breed to be acccepted by the apa ie its time to start the Crested Cream Legbar Club. just my thoughts.
I wonder for the egg color if we could just 'borrow' the existing card of the Ameraucana club and/or the Araucana club - who borrowed the one from the UK and changed if from Colour to color. I have to say again that my admiration goes to Mr. F. Decmar of the British Araucana club who used actual egg shells to develop the chart. I'll bet it was a pretty enormous amount of work to accomplish that!

Keep the good ideas coming. I think when we get a 'critical mass' then it will all come together---but we are early in the game yet.

Thanks GaryDean....
Since I see we can make tables in member pages.... I will give it a shot and see if the columns and rows make sense. A table where others could replicate the page...may be possible, then it would just be fill-in-the-blanks for the ones who want to share records about - age at first egg, weight etc. Any other things anyone else wants to see tracked on each bird or family of birds...drop your ideas off here.
If Others are tracking the information I want to know..
1) weight at 6 months
2) weight at 12 months
3) weight at 18 months
4) weight of first egg
5) Weeks to first egg
6) weight of egg at 12 months
7) weight of egg at 18 months
8) average egg color
7) Anual egg production
9) Broodiness
10) Photo of mature bird
11) Photo and source of parent stock (and grandparent stock if available)
12) Off-spring photos
13) Show wins

If I am keeping track of the in formation, then I just want the following..
1) Mature weight
2) Photo of bird
3) Photo and source of parent stock
4) Additional Information/Notes

Next time you are that close....... stop on by! Typically I am there after 6 PM on the weekday and basically all day on the weekends. But if you are in the area and I am not around - I could arrange my helper to be around if I knew ahead of time.

SORRY - no exchange on kids... LOL LOL LOL.

My two do plenty to keep me on my toes!

Drove thru Valdosta today going home from Florida and all I could think about was that Richard Jordan's farm was there and I wanted to stop soooooo bad but DH wouldn't do it because he knew I wouldn't leave empty handed! Bummer!

AH HA!!

Here is kind of something I am considering how it could be useful...and maybe this isn't possible. A spreadsheet...where different fields could be used to sort. (o.k. actually a database, but that isn't something most people have).

For example...I'm really happy with my flock but decide I would like to move toward eggs that are A1 on the egg color chart-- while I'm getting C15. Makes me think when it is time for a new rooster...I go to the table, sort by egg color...find the egg color codes, and lo and behold. Mr GaryDean26 has some stock with A1---so I try to get some hatching eggs or purchase a cockerel from his flock.

Or---from looking at pictures, I see that Ms Blackbirds13 has a color I really like (were all these people to put entries in this as yet imaginary place) - so I contact her for some hatching eggs.

And someone notices that my guy has a great comb--so they contact me for some spare cockerels.

Hmmmm I wonder. Kind of far fetched....but it is kind of the way I think I would work to improve my flock anyhow.

Every individual would enter their own flock data, of course. Wonder how long before it would break. (Before I retired, long, long, long ago, I used to work in the field of Information Technology..... So I know the underlying concepts.)

Too bad there isn't a person with a lot of technical expertise that is current...that would/could make it happen and say it is just a piece of cake to do.

I like these ideas. Keep them coming.
