The life of Daryl the emu

The archives hold numerous posts, mich, on vent-sexing emus. I recall that if 'you' were gonna vent-sex Eric, I would weld myself into a cast-iron observation post before the fun began.

There is no way I could think of to even try. Daryl is only 10 weeks old but so strong! I would need a suit of armor to attempt vent sexing!

Here are some pictures of Daryl taken today. Remember Riddick the Dog is a 90 pound boxer if that gives you some perspective on Daryl's size. Daryl is 10 weeks old.

Daryl is gorgeous. He has really grown. Does he get along with your other pets? Thanks so much for sharing his pics.

He gets along pretty well with some of the others....
He adores the dog. Follows him all over the yard. Poor puppy gets pecked a lot but that's just his curiosity. He has his group of chickens he was brooded with that he hangs out with too. If he can't see them he cries his distress call until he finds them.
The other chickens ignore him and vice versa. The ducks, welllllll......
I have 2 drakes that are going through puberty right now so they bite everyone including Daryl. He doesn't realize that he is way bigger and he just runs away.
Daryl is very pleasant and curious. We get pecked a lot and it hurts.....but we know he's just investigating his world.

How exciting! Will you be able to get used to a new name? I once had a boy budgie named Ariel, because it took so long to realize it wasn't a girl. By then I didn't want to change its name. Same thing with my first budgie hen, Finnie. She was Finn when we thought she was a boy.

I think Daryl is kinda a cute name for a tomboy.

I think we'll probably stick with Daryl. She's about 3 months old and it will be tough to call her Darla after calling her daryl for all that time.
