The Meatie weigh-along!

They look like my two-week olds.

Their smaller size may be due to TSC feeding them the same starter as all the other chicks, and not gamebird or meat bird starter. Also, they may not have kept the feeders full. Don't worry, they'll catch up soon enough!

I have my new numbers, but only 5 meatbirds left.

One dropped dead friday while I was at work.

Smallest(pullet) is 5 lbs, 6.5 lbs, 6.75 lbs, 7 lbs & the biggest is 8 lbs!

We're thinking about processing at least one this weekend.

My husband and I are brand new- 3 weeks- to raising jumbo cornish crosses. How big should they be by now? I am guessing they weigh about 1- 1 1/2 pounds, but I need to weigh them. They are on 18% Broiler feed (After their 1st 40 pound bag of chick starter was gone (1-1/2 weeks), just started 12 on 12 off last week on their feed. All seem healthy. Are we on target? We have been told that we should process them around 8 weeks. About what can we expect weight wise at that time? Please advise!

You're making the rest of us look bad. Sounds like the 8 lb -er is ready to butcher. That's HUGE! Were you able to process the one that died, or had it sat too long? Sorry for your loss; I'm worried about the same happening to my own, since I've stopped restricting feed.

Weighed mine, and almost every single one weighed the same - 3lbs 12 oz. I'm hoping for 6 lbs by 8 weeks, hopefully they stay on track with their current gain.

If anyone else has some current weights they'd like to add, I'll post updated charts this evening.

I will be weighing mine tomorrow...they are looking good. I like them much more now that they are outside, lol! We hope to process them after Easter. Can't wait to see how much they weigh now.

I'm going to call & make an appointment to have them processed. DH is building me 3 more breeding pens so he's really busy. He also wants to watch a "pro" do it before we attempt processing here. It's only $2 per bird, so no biggie. I'd like to give them another week or 2, but that's just asking for trouble I think.

We weren't sure when the chicken died, so thought it was better not to eat it. I honestly wasn't sure what to do or if it was safe to eat.
