Thanks for the empathy.
I still haven't found out who the woman was. We are guessing just someone who used the dumpster at the build site. The people on the next lot over lost their house to a fire. They leveled the site and put a small dumpster up there for extra stuff found. So we think she didn't want to get caught throwing her trash in there. The lady on the right side of me on the hill said she saw her using the dumpster. That being the reason she was going so fast. Out of the 20 acres off my road there is only 3 houses. We are a small knit group and help each other out. He came down and dug a hole for us with his bobcat. No way we could have dug with a shovel in this rocky clay land. People do awful things. I found 2 4 week old kittens in that dumpster 3 weeks ago. I took them in bottled fed them, got them strong and found homes for them. I was going to do the same with the lil kitten my dog brought home. But I guess I'll keep her. Livia loved cats. I'm not so sure my old cat will like the new kitten. But she is 11 years old and still catches mice and rats. Maybe the new girl will be a good mouser too. Always room for good spayed mousers in the country. My old cat would take naps with the dog. An odd couple for sure.

I always stop for animals. Sometime you can't help it if they double back too fast. I stop for turtles too. But I bring them back home for release. I'm still thankful it wasn't one of my kids. I was wondering if they would have stopped for my kids. You would think a 1 lane, dead end, dirt road with only 3 houses on it would be a safe area for kids and pets. I guess the next house I buy will be on many acres in the middle of the woods lol.

That's sad. I hope you catch the woman. Some people just don't care that what they do impacts others. But, what goes down comes back around, I always say. When I suddenly slow down to a near stop in the road, my daughter always asks what kind of animal am I avoiding - lol. I saved a turtle from a black vulture the other day.

Bad news on my end. Last evening my kids and dog where playing my yard/road. I live on a private dead end 1 lane dirt road. Someone whom I don't know was going too fast in front of my house and ran over my Corgi. Right in front of me and my kids. I was yelling, kids crying and they didn't even stop but spun out on once on the main road. The road isn't long it goes through 2 acres, then hits the last house. Maybe 100yrds. She didn't have a chance front and back tires got her. All I could think was it could have been one of the kids. My daughter was riding her bike behind the car not close cause she is 5 and can't go that fast. The dog was chasing her as she always has. Then the dog ran after the car. My girl stopped at the creek. The dog saw she stopped and so did the dog just in front of the car. Brakes applied or slower speed and it wouldn't have happened. She didn't even hit the brakes.

What is bad it's my girls dog. I finally had it trained to herd my chickens at night and chase off anything that moved. Now I have to herd them into the pens at night through the thick brush! I loved that dog. Last week she brought home an 6 wk old kitten. Its eyes where matted shut and super skinny. The kitten is much better. She would get eggs the chickens laid out of the nest boxes. She would find one and carry it across the yard, up to the porch, play with it then eat it. She was soft mouthed. A good trait for any dog. Too be careful enough to carry home a tiny kitten and it only be wet was a good thing.

I know it was partly the dogs fault for running on the road. But to have stopped and said omg sorry I didn't see it would have been nice. She was only 20lbs. But I know she saw her, she had the window down and the dog was barking. Let's just say the next time I see that car go up, I'll be the one in the road. I just don't understand some people. Sorry to rant but I know some one out there has been there done that. This is the first time I have ever had a pet run over. My last dog was 14 and a shep /lab mix died of old age. My 18 year old cat old age got her. Both died within 6 months of each other. It took me 4 years before I got a new dog. She was 1yr7months old. Being a Corgi I thought I had at least 14 years. She was going to be the dog my kids grew up with. The kids are 5 and 6 and are not taking it well.

I guess I will have to put up a speed hump.
I'm so sorry to hear about the loss of your corgi and right in front of the children. Time to talk with the sheiff and let him park in the drive to chase speeders. When your ready for another corgi, I can get info on corgi aid, it's an nonprofit that provides money to rescues group saving and homing Corgis. it's scares the bejuese out of me, that could have been my fearless one! So glad now to have a gate--even though it's a pain coming in and out of the drive way.

First, THANKS for all the support & offers!
You are all so very nice, and it really is helpful to be able to post here and know that nobody is laughing at me when I'm upset b/c I've had a rash of poultry disasters/losses.
It is nice to know other ppl understand the effort and attachment that went into those birds, esp. losing the first Chicken & the first Goose I ever hatched from my incubator all on the same week.

So I just realized my Avatar is the NYDH chicks, Beaker (the MaranxAme roo I lost) & KandyKane the maran pullet.
I just have to post the pictures,

I hate this phone sometimes......PLEASE RELPY TO MY PM me i dont know what eegs you want or how many. I am meeting her tomorrow mid day and will have to get the eggs in the morning.

What an idiot. Anyone who has a half a brain knows that you scope the dumpster in the day and then wait till nightfall to stuff it. Even if your spotted, the description isn't clear. Then you don't have to tear out of there like you just committed armed robbery. I am sorry for you loss. My brother owned a half Corgi, half Chihuahua when we were kids. Chico was such a good dog. He looked like a short haired Corgi. On the other hand none of your kids will ever doubt your word that the road can be a dangerous place. They will take you seriously when you teach them the road rules for bikes and later for cars and motorcycles. When bad things happen like that sometimes the only thing you can tell them is to remember it and never grow up to be a person who would hit and run somebodies pet.

And I would have to keep the kitten too if it was the last gift my dog brought me.

By the way I saw the following Free ad on Craig's List. It is farther than I can go for it but some of you may be closer to Triune.

Hi! Cleaned out our shed....I have a collection of older childrens bikes and scooters, some good shape, some bad, some rust, some easily rehab-ed.....they've been sitting in the shed for years. Parents should really check them out for safety before your child heads down the street!

I also have an Americare PPX propane exchange tank. It was left to us by the house's previous owners, so I know NOTHING about it, except that I don't need it:) I have no idea if it is safe or has issues. It may even have a little propane in it......

Finally, I have a bunch of wire....chicken, I think, maybe some sheep? Some is a little rusty, some is fine. I hate to throw it in the dump, but my husband doesn't need it.

Shoot me an email if you want to pick anything up. I'll delete the items when they are gone. Thanks!

Donna, Our internet went out yesterday & just now came back on -- I replied to your pm already, wow sorry this has been such a hassle, out internest has only worked less than half the time for the past 2wks, they have been here twice to change equipment, I hope it keeps working now!

Peach2U - Very sorry about the loss of your corgi, esp. in front of the kids that is hard, & by a jerk who failed to take responcibility & stop all the worse :(

Tons-o-new ppl --
Hi, welcome to the most friendly chicken thread ever, there are lots of great ppl here, full of help, advice, and from time to time direct enabling for your chicken math. Hope things are going well in all your homes & coops. As noted above, my rural internet service only works like 2 out of any random 10 hrs so I'm hit or miss to be online, but I do read everything eventually.

Everyone - hope you are enjoying a nice weekend.

Sorry about your little Corgi. We have had so many animals run over through the years and we live out in the country too. We finally have a fence around the yard which as amenfarm stated can also be aggravating opening and closing the gate on the driveway. But it is worth it. Sorry they didn't even have the decency to at least stop afterward.
