The Middle Tennessee Thread

Just sharing - small animal swap meet at Tim and Susie Hen House in Scottsville KY (just north of Westmoreland TN) 8 am to 2 pm today. They have one every month. 1597 Squire Lyles Rd.

Bad news on my end. Last evening my kids and dog where playing my yard/road. I live on a private dead end 1 lane dirt road. Someone whom I don't know was going too fast in front of my house and ran over my Corgi. Right in front of me and my kids. I was yelling, kids crying and they didn't even stop but spun out on once on the main road. The road isn't long it goes through 2 acres, then hits the last house. Maybe 100yrds. She didn't have a chance front and back tires got her. All I could think was it could have been one of the kids. My daughter was riding her bike behind the car not close cause she is 5 and can't go that fast. The dog was chasing her as she always has. Then the dog ran after the car. My girl stopped at the creek. The dog saw she stopped and so did the dog just in front of the car. Brakes applied or slower speed and it wouldn't have happened. She didn't even hit the brakes.

What is bad it's my girls dog. I finally had it trained to herd my chickens at night and chase off anything that moved. Now I have to herd them into the pens at night through the thick brush! I loved that dog. Last week she brought home an 6 wk old kitten. Its eyes where matted shut and super skinny. The kitten is much better. She would get eggs the chickens laid out of the nest boxes. She would find one and carry it across the yard, up to the porch, play with it then eat it. She was soft mouthed. A good trait for any dog. Too be careful enough to carry home a tiny kitten and it only be wet was a good thing.

I know it was partly the dogs fault for running on the road. But to have stopped and said omg sorry I didn't see it would have been nice. She was only 20lbs. But I know she saw her, she had the window down and the dog was barking. Let's just say the next time I see that car go up, I'll be the one in the road. I just don't understand some people. Sorry to rant but I know some one out there has been there done that. This is the first time I have ever had a pet run over. My last dog was 14 and a shep /lab mix died of old age. My 18 year old cat old age got her. Both died within 6 months of each other. It took me 4 years before I got a new dog. She was 1yr7months old. Being a Corgi I thought I had at least 14 years. She was going to be the dog my kids grew up with. The kids are 5 and 6 and are not taking it well.

I guess I will have to put up a speed hump.

I am so sorry to hear about your horrible loss. The scene must have been extremely traumatic for you and for the children. The insensitivity of some people just shocks and amazes me. Where is the empathy? My heart goes out to your family - it sounds like your Corgi was a true gem. Peace . . .

I'd guess young driver + panic. I'm so sorry. Just be careful about retaliation. As horrible as it was, doing something that might cause an accident is not going to help. One of my neighbors once sprayed a speeder with the hose (window was down) while he was out watering his flowers. The driver got out and there was a physical altercation. He's lucky the jerk didn't have a gun -- that's how mad the speeder was.

People drive too fast on our road too and the sheriff is among the worst offenders so I am not expecting it will get better. We have the luxury of a long driveway for a buffer, though, so my kids and dog aren't anywhere near it. But, I do stick to the speed limit in residential areas and piss people off regularly who are stuck behind me so that's my retaliation.

Peach2u, sorry to hear about your dog. Time for a speed bump.

Hello to all our newer members! I am not on the forum much since "The Change," but I am still raising bantam chickens, a couple of mini goats and now a few ducks here in the Mount Juliet area. If any of you are ever in the neighborhood, give me a shout!

This spring my broody hen hatched another batch of Heavenly Springs Farm eggs from Indiana, and the blue-black-splash bantam Ameraucana chicks are now around 10 weeks old. I am selling male-female pairs and single cockerels, and of course I have more boys than girls. *sigh*

These are beautiful chicks, active and hardy, and the boys can add the blue egg gene to a mixed flock, especially for those of you with Old English or Dutch bantams. The black chicks can be shown if you like poultry shows, and the others will add beautiful color genetics to a flock.

My CL ad is here -

I am too lazy to re-learn whatever I need to do to post pictures and ads/auctions on the new BYC site, ha ha! Hope all of you are enjoying your flocks. Raising poultry is still one of the best hobbies I can imagine! I love it.

Take care!

Jenski, we're just about neighbors! Hubby keeps talking about goats but I think he's more about milk than mini.

Oh, and our cat was smug and mewing over her big catch yesterday -- a full-grown rat! She ate it after receiving her praise so I didn't need to touch it. It continues to amaze me that a dainty little calico, so gentle with kids and a dog and doesn't bother chickens can be such a killer! I wish we could clone her. And to think, some fool dumped her!

So sorry about the dog! Wow.....i cant belive some people. I could never hit a pet. I hat to hit wild animals but sometimes it is unavoidable. I break to a fault hubby gets mad at me for breaking......still going to break :)

Does anyone on here show chickens? I need to move my slw roo i got from foley. He would be great for someone that showed chickens.......but that might be it. No chicks from him ever. Gentle roo too.
