sold all my extra layers today....gave a few little roos to him too. a few less mouths to feed it all hatches..

got to move about 40 birds out to a big pen outside....that was HUGE! that emptied 3 pens inside. only one more big batch of chicks left to more before the normal hatches need moving. going to feel more normal now. that was really overwhelming. once I get the extra guinea gone and the keepers moved outside life will be good.....er

house is moving along too. soon to have closets. painting nearing completion and flooring is ready to be installed. then moving begins....hubby is moving in....pray for us still but things are much better.

I have an internal pip !!!
wanting to share some GOOD news for a change :)

I've had the Murphy's Law for chickens this year but I think it is all about to change for the better...

I locked down on some mutt EE eggs for my friends who lost their flock to coyotes (see my post a 3wks ago)
but in there are also 3 LIVE H. Buckeye eggs, woohoo, cross your fingers everyone, the Roo is fantastic but OLD so I have only gotten about 5 fertile eggs zero hatched since I got the Trio in Feb.
(& day b/f yesterday I lost Helen the hen to what can only have been heat stress?? she was the picture of perfect health but broody 6 wks now & w/ the temps/humidity/zero breeze I think it just was too much for her , so tragic , but I believe 1 of these eggs is hers, 2 are from Penny the pullet based on size/color . Oh I soooo hope they hatch....)

I know it might sound like these Heritage Buckeyes are useless, & I was starting to have 2nd thoughts on the breed when 2 months ago,
during all that rain it washed the burried wire on their pen & a coon mama w/ 2 babies apparently tried to get into the Buckeye pen,
the **Trio went out the dug up fence & killed the coons, Mr Buckeye got the adult & the girls each got a young one* , so how amazing is THAT!
My DH got up the hill to find them outside the pen at dawn each standing on a dead coon, then each in turn jumped onto his hand showing him they had not a scratch on themselves
and he opened the door to the yard and they walked back in, DH hates poultry but he was impressed.

Sooo, everyone hope the 3 Buckeye eggs hatch ....

Mr Buckeye the moment he arrived out of the carrier:

Helen the hen ...RIP...here is hoping your egg hatches....
