if I can build 8 cages tomorrow I am going to the exotic auction Friday. they said chickens start after 12 noon.

commissions for FYI are $5 a cage or if over $50 10%.

cages have to have enough room for the birds, solid bottoms, bedding and food and water.

I have no idea how anyone classifies folks as an authority so I won't get into that but I can tell you that I believe much of the qualities of any line have directly to do with what that line has been bred for. Yes most production/hatchery birds don't have the longevity of most heritage birds - that's a safe generality to make. However many heritage lines have been bred for opposing qualities. If you are looking for specific qualities and traits it would be wise to become familiar with the various lines in your breed and then research what qualities they have been bred for. All breeders have different priorities and different hot buttons. People really desiring quality heritage birds should spend time finding those breeders who have common breeding goals.

Yes I agree, and I did exactly that, and the birds have come from one of the most respected breeders of this breed. All the problems are entirely related to a string of bad luck / Murphy's Law that I've gone through this year, no fault of the breed or the breeder or the birds, just a pile of unfortunate situations, like the time the electrical went out for 3 days killing all but 6 of 13 doz eggs in the incubator while I was not home, sometimes bad things just happen :( . I'm still working w/ the remaining pair and I expect some good things in the future...

Editing to note - The breeder offered me a replacement Cockeral already a couple months ago, it has been my choice to give Mr Buckeye a chance through the fall because I really like him, but thinking about this fact to edit this post has also caused me to realize why he hasn't been covering the girls on my farm. Had the same issue w/ dairy goats just realized it is the same problem due to this post.

For anybody not busy with the exotic sale, don't forget about the 35th annual Mountaineering Folk Festival at Fall Creek Falls State Park.

We're going to have a booth there this year, but even if we didn't we wouldn't miss this.
Friday from 5-10, Saturday all day, and Sunday til 5, I think.

2x It is a nice show. I know there will also be a stained glass vendor & a (good quality) goats milk soap vendor. Not too much about chickens, but a fun time nontheless.

Hey, y'all! I have a couple of splash ameraucana pullets to sell, along with a herd of EE and ameraucana boys. There is a really pretty blue ameraucana boy that I hate to take to my rooster guy. Anybody need any EEs or AMs?

I also have some young welsummers, both boys and girls. Thought I'd share here before I Craigslist them.
I sent you a PM. Wanting a/some pullets...
