Babies must be introduced. Usually you section off part of your run or put your new babies in a cage inside the run with the bigger/older birds so they can get accustomed to each other safely. After a couple of days, you can usually let them out and other than some "pecking order" scuffles, all should be well. My problem right now is a VERY jealous big Lavender Guinea. She is in the pen with our Buff Orp Rooster and won't let us put the new Orp girls in the pen. We are going to have to introduce the same way very soon and maybe this Guinea may end up in the turkey pen where she won't be the "boss" anymore..hahahaha.

why do the posts say today is the 24th? I know that is tomorrow not today.....it is my birth date hehe. but TOMORROW NOT TODAY????? it it just on my phone or on BYC?

Wow- never heard of them. Awesome. Its way too far from here though- we are closer to Chattanooga. I guess I will just keep trying. Every time they eat it makes me so happy. Thanks!
If you end up raising them all the way you will have to address teaching them not to claw you if they are upset. Those cute little "hands" can turn into blender blades. If you have to do unpleasant things like doctoring wear leather gloves.

So today we discover that "The Bourbon Sisters" (BR Turkeys) are deathly frightened of...over ripe peaches.
ahh, yah
Got several bushels to feed the pigs but they have to be hand pitted to avoid choking hazard for the pigglets.
So I figured the really wet smashed ones would just get divided up into the bird pens to pick on.
DH followed directions, put some in each coop/pen, the free ranging Bourbon girls headed in for the night
took one look at the ripe peaches , screamed bloody murder, turned , ran out, flew 20 ft up in tree and roosted
totally ignoring the arrival of a thunderstorm which is of course far more dangerous for them to be sure.

sigh

They are really sweet, but wow timid doesn't begin to cover it about these turkeys...peaches, seriously...
Maybe smushed peaches looked like smashed eggs/babies to them.

I don't think I would ever put guinea with my chickens. they can kill them. they will attack anything invading their territory. so I give them there own pen never to mix with chickens really. I have not found an easy way to introduce new guinea. they try to kill their own. this time I want to OUT NUMBER THEM when I add new birds. just need to get the old boys out. seems all the birds that got eaten by the dog were girls and I have all boys now.... dinner anyone? :) the other dark meat.

Ok, I have been to Target, Wal-Mart, and Kroger and cannot find ACV with 'the mother' in it anywhere. Where do y'all get it at? The only place I've had any luck finding it was Amazon.com, but to avoid shipping cost I would really like to find it in store somewhere. Help me out...lol
Health food store. A green grocer store. If you are in Nashville the 7th Day Adventist store in Goodlettsville used to carry it. If you look at Kroger in the health food section I think that's were I got my last bottle of it. I think the Vitamin Store has it and maybe the GNC.

I'd have to argue on them not tasting hot stuff. Ole timers know stuff that science can never explain or even figure to try at first.
Amen to that. I had an 80 year old cattle farmer tell me how to keep my thin skinned mare from being eaten up by mosquitoes. Use the Sulfur salt blocks. It worked like a charm. She was crusted with bites from her withers to her croup. They healed up and she grew in the most gorgeous shiny coat. My sheep ate it also and my lambs were born with thicker wool. I went 5 years without having to buy any antibiotics to fight colds because they didn't have any. Some of you older folks know what I am talking about. Before all the amazing wonder drugs of the late '70's and onward there were two classes of antibiotics: penicillin and sulfa drugs (sulfur compounds). Now I am having trouble finding anyone who still sells them. I am going to have to check with the Co Op again.

the other dark meat.
On the other hand I found that guinea boys were quieter than girls and once all my girls had been killed the remaining boys didn't spend all day shrieking. So you might find someone who wants quieter guineas for tick control and start over with a new set of keets.

i have maybe 30 keets to add in the flock.....problem with grown birds VERY hard to relocate. going to put them on CL maybe someone wants some for meat. I am keeping a few for the colors. my new flock is way more colorful. lavender, coral blues, buff wyandottes, piers then I will keep a few whites a lavender and any females pearls I can find.

if someone know HOW to sex these things let me know.
