The Middle Tennessee Thread

Congrats dmrippy. Im on day 22 of my hatch now and only had 7 hatch outta 23 and one of them died ths morning. The other 6 are doing great. Not sure wht happened but gonna set more ths weekend. Tryin to gve the ones left in the bator a chance. This is my first shot at hatching. My humidity and temps were prty good thoughout the 21 days. Mayb ill have bttr luck the nxt go around.

Sorry to hear that..... I dry incubate and have really good luck with it. I am going to just stop adding water in the incubator at all. I didn't all winter and had good hatches. Now my new hatcher has lower humidity but good hatches I am not going to worry about it.....until I need to.

I have a "quad" right now and the hens are laying at least 2 fertile eggs per day, usually 3. I had my rooster out of the pen for 3 days, not long enough to affect fertility. I have a possible cockerel 2 1/2 weeks old that will need to be rehomed if he is indeed male. My sister in law has several of my Aussie eggs in her incubator. Photos of the parents are on my profile

This is the first year I've had such a wide range of colors myself; it sure does make a pretty egg basket and it is fun to surprise ppl w/ so many colors. Of course they eat well too ;P
The funny part for me is that in going on 9 yrs of chickens I've never actually had a *white* egg layer, I have 3 MFLeghorn eggs in the bator at moment hoping to fix the lack of a white egg layer.

The 3 huge eggs in the center of the photo are Turkey eggs of course. I still really need to find a Bourbon Red Tom for those girls so we can have an actual troop of them.

There is someone down near Shelbyville who adverised last year on Craig's List.

Anyone know where I can get a lavender pekin bantam and possibly lemon too? In middle Tenn preferably. I doubt I can find one. The only ones I've found are over seas so far. Sad cause I really want one of each

MFL don't lay white eggs. Their eggs are cream colored.

Going this afternoon to get three male peacocks for free. The man said if I can catch them there mine so he put some corn down in his chicken coop and said they will be in there. Now I am rushing to make a big pen for the back of my truck so I can get them all.

6 more days till hatch day!! This is my first time ever trying to hatch eggs. I am at 50% now. Started with 12 eggs and down to 6 growing baby chicks. What do I watch for during the last few days of incubation besides chiks coming out lol? Anything special I should do?
