My Australorps are laying sporadically but my bantam Orpingtons are completely shut down. They are in a coop with less light, because their coop is wooden and their run has the clear plastic wrap, while my Australorps have the white tarp hoop coop. I don't know if that is why the Australorps are laying more or not, but I suspect it is.

As long as you have good air circulation necessary for the health of the birds, a solid enclosure is OK and may keep the Gals from cold drafts etc. Layers need 12-14 hours of light and with that said; place a Blue/Red/or White Colored 8Watt-40Watt bulb in the shelter coop. If you use over 25 Watts you need to use a reflector shade with a wire protector on it to keep the Gals from getting burned by the bulb. Brooder lamps work just fine and if you have a large area to cover, a 250 Watt-300 Watt Infrared light heats up the coop and provides light at the same time.

Using a COLORED bulb Vs. a clear to frosted white bulb works better as they tend to have a Calming Factor.

I'm selling my guineas, if anyone is interested. 5 pearl greys (1 cock and 4 hens), $10 each. I'd prefer to sell them all together. Will trade them for standard sized chickens. I'd really like some EEs or Marans, but will consider other breeds. They're 6 months old. The cock has just started mating the hens, so I'm guessing they'll start laying soon.

How are you sexing them? I can't tell on mine at ALL! They will not lay till spring. They are seasonal layers.

Mine are laying right now, just not sitting. The males, even at a young age, make a very different sound than the females.
I really do not like the guineas. Whenever they hatch in the summer we catch all the keets when they are only a day or two old and give them away. I do NOT want any more. Lol
