The Middle Tennessee Thread

I have had several roo guys over the years. I fill their freezers up pretty quick LOL. You can find someone to take roos for meat no problem. Just put them on CL for free or cheap and they will go pretty quickly.

That's sort of my plan, but everyone has me worried that people on craigslist are snatching up free roosters for cock fighting. Not sure how often that's actually happening though.

For what its worth, I'd take any unwanted roosters that someone was giving away. You'd have to bring them to me though, and I'm in Jamestown, which seems far away from pretty much everyone on this thread. Some of them might end up in the freezer (especially if they have an attitude problem), but most of them would go into my free range coop, and have 14 acres of pasture to roam through for bugs and mice ;)

I don't know how often it happens, but the rumor is that free roosters are used to train fighting dogs and roosters. The free roosters don't fight, but can be used to develop blood lust. Again, I don't know that it's true, but it does make sense to charge a little something until you are sure of intent.

I wouldn't give the extra away if they have decent meat. I sell mine. I have several restaurants that buy them. And one who owns a restaurant and a farm but has no need for pullets takes all the day old cockerels I can supply him. He raises them for 6 months himself - very handy deal.
Check with local, non franchise type restaurants.

I find it cheaper to give them to one person that shows up when I ask..... they must take day olds all the way to grown birds. Some pay me some cash or pine shavings but even it they don't I don't have to feed the roos I don't need. They usually take about 50+ every month. They let them run their property (I can't do that with all the predators we have) and use them for meat. Best way I know to get rid of roos. I don't have time to process, nor a desire to do that right now.
