Holly- we will get him/her to you soon. Happy 21st...with so many people unable to maintain long term relationships you should give yourselves an extra pat on the back. Well I will just go ahead and do so

Closest smilie I could find. My folks have been together 44 years...something for me and my hubby to shoot for.

Everyone dance with me--- those VERY SPECIAL silkie eggs are at the post office-- I will be making a jet look slow as soon as I get out of the office. Just a half day so I should have them by lunch.

My first peachick hatched this morning and it looks like it will have a friend by tomorrow. Never hatched any before and have no idea what I am getting myself into. Maybe I will just let them go to someone else as I have a lot of irons in the fire. Interest?

The farmer that i bought a 20 hole nesting box from yesterday, also sells hertiage amerucana eggs. Is $30.00 for fertile eggs reasonable? I've never purchased eggs or chickens for that matter-but a couple from my sunday school class has offered to hatch out eggs for me--his the ag teacher at a local HS--how strange things work,LOL? does anyone know about a chicken sale, or something i can attend/ around chattanooga area to buy chickens? i'd like to buy few months old to 1 years hens for laying, this year and increase to 25 next spring and have the breeds picked out, i'm thinking 2 of each i want and see how well i like them. My husband is soon to start on a 8 chicken chicken tractor:fl/ followed by a 8x8 coop.

Heritage Ameraucana eggs

What one won't come up with to call them next. What colors were his Heritage Ameraucana? Sounds like Easter Eggers to me which is what most "Ameraucana" are but hatcheries feed stores and old time farmers call them.Ameraucana only come in a few colors with a strict breed standard.www.ameraucana.org for the breed standard and pictures.Chances are his birds were multi colored with green legs. But,EE eggs sell for $10-$15 a dozen this time of year when they are so plentiful true Ameraucana eggs sell for around $30 a dozen depending on what color they are.If his were true he would state the color like Wheaten Ameraucana etc... but not Heritage Ameraucana. His are way over priced.
www.ameraucana.org for the breed standard and pics of what true Ameraucana look like.My guess is his were orangy with black or some other color with black and green legs.
I would advise against any auctions for chickens..you can very easily bring in diseases that will kill your whole flock and infect your coops. There are lots of nice chickens for sale privately in the area.
What breeds are you looking for? You just may find them here on this thread-many of us have chickens for sale and have breeding birds not hatchery stock....and some have both

I have not seen them, I had my grandson yesterday--so no room in the truck cap for a car seat. Worried he was overpriced. I would like 2 hens each in australorp, anything that lays blue/or green tinted eggs (my friend will feed while I'm on vaca- she really wants to see these eggs-me,too), wyandotte, Am. dominique 0r delaware, sussex, maybe golden comets--want calm, quite, good egg layers, dual purpose, and gets along well with others. oh, and my dear heart needs about a month to start/finish the tractor.

You absolutely did not scare me off, and I'm more than happy to share my coop and run plans with you, the gallbladder removal has been somewhat harder on the First Lady than they lead us to believe. I'll share some with you soon. I haven't gotten to work on it either. The Mr. Mom thing is pretty hard on me. I should be better at it, my boys are 8 and 7, but the truth is, I barely hold it together when Stephy's down.

Well definitely tell her that!! Every woman likes to know she is the undisputed queen of something. I remember my gallbladder surgery, it was not a cake walk by any stretch of the imagination. I was up and close to normal about 10 days out, if I held my mouth just right..LOL
Tell First Lady that some of us have been there and done that...and don't envy her a bit. I hope she is back to normal soon.
BTW ANY Dad that is willing to try the Mr Mom thing is a superman in my book.

Holly,
It isn't lymphoma!!!

It is sarcoidosis that isn't great news but not the C word. We have more hope than we did before. Thanks for the kind words.

I've got 8 asst. banty cochins cookin' up right now. They are doing great. I did have nine but one just decided to quit about 5 days ago, I was in denial about it, but tonight I threw it into the woods. It surely didn't measure up against the other 8. But I've got a pretty decent assortment of cochins on their way to hatching. I'm doing dry incubation this time and the air cells and the chicks are developing textbook. It's just a black blob now with a nice pretty air pocket at the round end of the egg, I'm happy with them.
I was gonna run my incubator one more time and get some more breeds I wanted, but I think I might let my wife's cousin that lives in Antioch borrow it so her 12 year old son can hatch some chicks. I might just get some eggs I want, let him hatch and raise them for a few weeks, then come get them and grow them out here with me.
As a side note, every morning when I woke up, I looked out my bedroom window at my little chickens out in the yard, and now they are big enough to crow, and I've got 3 alpha males, one gold seabright banty, one cochin barred banty, and one ancona standard... those 3 have a big "crow-off" every morning, and they do it right outside my bedroom window, because I trained them to look for me there. It's been 4:30 every morning for a week and a half for me, so take that as a lesson, don't let your chickens know where you sleep at.
