You absolutely did not scare me off, and I'm more than happy to share my coop and run plans with you, the gallbladder removal has been somewhat harder on the First Lady than they lead us to believe. I'll share some with you soon. I haven't gotten to work on it either. The Mr. Mom thing is pretty hard on me. I should be better at it, my boys are 8 and 7, but the truth is, I barely hold it together when Stephy's down.

Well definitely tell her that!! Every woman likes to know she is the undisputed queen of something. I remember my gallbladder surgery, it was not a cake walk by any stretch of the imagination. I was up and close to normal about 10 days out, if I held my mouth just right..LOL
Tell First Lady that some of us have been there and done that...and don't envy her a bit. I hope she is back to normal soon.
BTW ANY Dad that is willing to try the Mr Mom thing is a superman in my book.

I don't have to tell her... LOL... She can tell I'm in charge by the mess everywhere. I just only get the basic stuff done.

Morning all! Got a kind request for my presence from the lovely CityGirl, and who could refuse m'lady!
big_smile.png

It's going to be a very hot weekend, huh. I guess I need to get some chick-sicles and pup-sicles going in the freezer. The break from the extreme heat has been so nice. Guess it had to end sometime.

Holly, 14,000 sf of house!! *sigh* I guess lotsa work is better than no work. . . spoken from someone who has been OUT of work for 18+ months. Hope the job goes well! Stay cool over there, lady!

City, whatcha been up to?? Let's see some summer pics of your place. How are you liking your nice new roof?

emmalynn, I'm sending you and yours lots of healing thoughts and energy. Be well!

Congrats on your silkie eggs. We are expecting great things! Keep us posted.

matlock, same goes for your Lady! It is surely the highest and hardest calling to be a mom, huh! Hang in there and do your best. I am sure it's appreciated.
. . . and I belly laughed when I read about your little roos! You've been HAD, my friend! There's no hope for you sleeping in now.
lol.png
I feel your pain, though, since I can see all my pens from the house. . . gotta love the roos, though, since they are your built-in danger alarms!

amenfarm, I second HBuehler re. the Ameraucanas. There are several folks here who have some, and they keep nice, clean operations. Seems to me there is someone in the Murfreesboro area with beautiful, colorful blue/black/splash Ameraucanas, but I can't remember her name . . . hmmmm . . . maybe she'll chime in here somewhere . . .

Now as far as mixing breeds, after several years keeping chickens I would not personally mix them again, but I have small pens. I tried Ameraucanas with an Australorp hen, and that old hen gets very grumpy at the active, high-strung Ameraucanas. If they have lots of room there would probably be very few issues, though. Australorps are very easygoing.

Eh well, I'd better get out to the garden. It's so overgrown out there, I saw this little group strolling by earlier this morning:

Enjoy the day!

Ooooo.... me me me!! I have BBS ameraucanas!

I actually just went out there to check on everybody and a little fat blue chick popped out from under the AM broodies. I stole her and gave her to a silkie that has been sitting forever. Hopefully a chick will break the darn silkie. There are another 5 eggs under those two girls and 6 more under a broody sumatra. Everybody has AM eggs. I am about to be covered up with tiny ameraucanas. There are some half grown ameraucanas running around too. Most of that lot are black. It is chickie central around here.

I have the BBS. Holly has wheatens. Someone else around here has white AMs, I think. We pretty much have you covered locally if you want ameraucanas. Same deal with Easter Eggers.

Hi CityGirlintheCountry - would you have hatching eggs for true Ameraucanas and olive eggers around August 8 - 12? I'll be traveling between now and then - so that's the earliest that I will be home long enough to be here for the entire hatching process and for awhile afterwards. I'm in Franklin - and would love to try hatching Araucanas, Ameraucanas, Black Copper Marans and Olive Eggers. Heck - I'd like a couple Welsummers, too. It would be great to get the eggs locally and not have to deal with getting them shipped. This will be my first try at hatching. Is August an okay time to hatch eggs? THANKS! :)

I will actually be in Franklin the afternoon of Sunday the 7th. Could you meet up then?
You never know who will be laying and who will be broody or molting, but I'm sure I can set you up with something from the AM pen.

I don't have any pure welsummer eggs. I do have a couple of wellies out there. That pen has a pure ameraucana rooster AND a barred rock EE roo. The wellie offspring have a 50/50 shot of being olive eggers. If they aren't olive eggers they will be some variation of Easter egger. I've had some really fun funky looking chicks come from the barred EE/welsummer mix.

Let me know if you find a local source of welsummers. I ordered eggs, but couldn't get any to hatch.

I would love to have more welsummers.

edited to add- Incubator hatching in August is fine. Sometimes when I hen hatch in August it is just too hot and the chicks don't do well.

I don't have BCMs, but I think someone local does. Hopefully they will pipe up.

Carol,
I have Welsummers and an appointment for the NPIP people to come out. Hopefully that will be before August and I am only 30 miles from you.

Anne,
Can we meet up in about 2 weeks? The new coop will be finished by then and I will be more than ready for the trio we discussed.

DH, DS, and DD have decided the pea chick is not going anywhere...does anyone know where I can now get another one?

Great CityGirl and Emmalynn - I will be in touch when we get a little closer to August 8th. I'll be getting back into town on the 7th and should be able to meet on the 8th. Thanks so much!

We have Australorps and Orpingtons. They are both quiet and calm. The orps have been laying for over a month now and they are very consistent. The orps are the sweetest most gentle ones I have. (I was also introduced to bantam cochins by some awful enablers here on BYC and I ADORE those little hens!!)
I would love to add some easter eggers just to see my kids' face when they go check for eggs and find a blue or green one!

Good luck and welcome!!

Matlock - glad that your wife in on the mend.

emmalynn - sending warm thoughts your way.

Holly - Congrats on the 14000 sf house job!

Had a great time at the meetup last weekend. Only downside is that I always walk away wanting more and more chickens!
