tracyree,
I've been wanting wheaton americaunas too. The hatching eggs run close to 50 bucks a dozen by the time you pay for shipping. I just set my bator with golden lakenvelders, but maybe we can split a dozen and a half hatching eggs. I'll hatch 'em. I'm a gentleman, I'll let you pick your half out. You interested?

Thanks soooo much for being so helpful!!! Exactly what I was needing!

on this last bunch i hatched I didn't use any water till lockdown. My humidity ran about 27-32% for the first 18, and I targeted 60-68% for lockdown. All 8 I locked down hatched with no help from me, I never opened the bator, and they were all hatched out within 24 hours of the first pip.

It has been so humid lately that I haven't added any water to mine either and it is pretty consistently around 32%. I'll bump it up on day 18 to around 50%. That method has worked really well for me.
I've got wheaten marans and OEGBs in there right now. Fingers crossed. This is my second round of marans. I got exactly 1 out of the first hatch. Sigh. Fingers crossed on this one. I'm on day 8 today. If these don't hatch I may have to suck it up and just order chicks.

Matlock- wow, thats tempting. Let me think about it a few days. If I were to go that route, I'd want to pay for the eggs and shipping since you'll be doing the hatching. Do you have a source? I was considering mypetchicken.com as I may throw in a blue orpinton and they have those as well. I'm in Murfreesboro, how would we meet up after hatch? (I'd be absolutely fine with you choosing for me). Oh, and I'm only needing 2-3 and fingers crossed they turn out to be girls.

I have an old hovabator in the attic that I've never used, so I'm tempted to bust it out and give it a go myself. My only fear is something wrong with the chicks that leave them unhealthy... Does that happen a lot?

So guess what ya'll... I'm actually thinking about incubating 2 emu eggs this upcoming winter. They take 50 days and their laying season is something weird like october to march. My friend told me I could have one or two there. I sure couldn't have 'em here. The first lady is intimidated by the thought of a six foot tall eighty pound bird just meandering around the homestead.

Hey, Middle Tennesseers, I posted this in Emergencies and got zero help. What do y'all think? I just don't know what to do with this poor chick.

I have a three week old chick that has always had leg issues. It couldn't stand as a newborn so I did the bandaid splint thing. It seemed to work great so after a week I took the bandaid off. The chick has been fine until yesterday. I noticed it wasn't wanting to walk around a lot. A few minutes ago I was replacing water and food and noticed it walking/hopping around. The hip joint at the top of the leg is noticeably sticking out. The chick can walk and doesn't seem to be in pain (at least it is not cheeping like they do when they hurt). I held it in my hand on its back and that leg clearly doesn't work the way the healthy leg does. When I set it back down it stood up, but that joint is jutting out to the side.

Is this a fixable problem? This poor baby has had all manner of problems with this leg. Other than the hip thing it is happy and mostly mobile though. How do I fix this or do I need to put the poor baby down?
