GOT EM! I’ll post pics later but 1. They’re bigger than I thought. 2. The shipping box was a lot smaller than I thought - but make sense. I also got only a few to drink and the rest picked it up quickly. I noticed they weren’t interested in the food but I figured after over 24 hours of traveling being cold I’d give them an hour or so under the heat lamp. You guys have let me know it’s normal for them to sleep a bunch so they’re all huddled under the heater plate now. In 30 I’ll head back out and do the paper towel thing. THey can find it on their own then I believe. Right?

Just set a few on the paper towel and the rest will follow, congratulations on recieving them!

This app is making me mad, I like the online version better where the add don’t interrupt my typing! But here they are alive! Last sentence is supposed to read that they found the food!

This is for size comparison, granted it’s a large dog crate, but it’s a tiny box.

Just a couple of tips... You'll want to fashion a cover for the crate, a lot of folks use hardware cloth. The get pretty mobile pretty quickly. I also like to add marbles to the water tray just for safety. That way they have plenty of water but it's not deep enough to drown in. Less of a problem with chicks than turkeys.

Yep, waiting on that for now but we have some ready to go. As they get more rambunctious I’ll keep watch to see when they start jumping around. They’ve gotten more stable on day one already! I did forget about the marbles, I remember reading it. So far all still alive...amazing little creatures.

When I got my first birds, I had the brooder in the garage. Went out about a week after we got them and no one was in the brooder. Had a really fun time finding and catching them all. No one told me they could escape that young.

I’m sorry but that’s funny! We had that same discussion today and the metal wire is there already. They can’t jump out yet but they like to hop over each other and who knows when that fantastic jump will come. I’d rather not have them freeze to death when I’m not there or have to find them or have the dog sniff em out! I also have the heat lamp and the brood heat thingy plate so they don’t have to hide under it to run around. I’m noticing some clumpy butts tonight so I’m re researching the apple cider vinegar amount for their water.

I add a lid full to mine but I'm sure you can find exact amounts on google, also I have 1 chick that is just meant to have pasty butt, warm water and a paper towel is the solution. Some mind having to do it but that chick is also my friendliest so their is a plus side haha. Get it asap to avoid hardening
