BTW I have not heard from that guy... guess he does not really want to sell hatching eggs

I have all standards, yes. I thought about picking up a pair or two of some really nice bantams at the exotic sale in Cookeville, but thought it was best for housing purposes to just keep to the standards since I already have a bunch of them.

I bought my BBR's just recently, and the roo was molting as well - the hens are now. He had these enormously long saddle feathers, though, that dragged the ground a few inches, plus a few leftover tailfeathers that were impressive. Several of the hens I got with him are showing rooster-type feathering (but are clearly hens), so I'm really excited to see the offspring. I'm not going to do any more hatches after this month, until February, due to the weather.

Bad thing about standards is the HOUSING. I have one tall coop and a huge run that was finished earlier this year, but I needed separate quarters for each breed and roo - so I bought two giant 6x8x4 metal aviaries and have my "Christmas present" on order - a 4 stall shed-row with each stall being 4x12x6. That should be enough to house two sumatra breeding pools, two Phoenix breeding pools, a grow-out pen, and two overflow pens to grow out the Phoenix cockerels on perches (so their tail feathers will be protected). I wish I could scavenge, but I've got a picky old fashioned man around that insists women aren't to use power tools and wants the pens made of specific wood so it - get this - "matches" the other pens and barn.

Donna, yes I am the one with eggs. I still have my Leghorn roo separated; honestly I needed the eggs for eating at the moment. I didn't know you were intrested in the Brahma eggs. I have had computer problems; sorry I haven't gotten back to you.

Ok, here is the deal with my Dark Brahmas. Honestly they have been pets and eggs till this summer. I realized there might be some benefit to helping fund my chicken project but I don’t want to be known as a “Chicken Mill” I have 2 full grown roosters and 4 full grown hens. Only one rooster is with the hens and I have hatched two sets eggs so far. I sold 7 of them to a guy out near Linden. Currently I have one 9 week old cockerel; the first and only hatched under a broody hen before going to an incubator. I have 2 cockerels and 2 pullets left from 11 hatched 5 weeks ago. They look pretty good but one of the pullets has some obvious vulture hocks that I understand are undesirable and shouldn’t be bred. In the brooder are 6 at 3 weeks old and I have about 24 nice eggs I have planned to put in the incubator this weekend. I wouldn’t mind selling some eggs or babies, but again, I don’t want to sell a bunch of poor quality birds. I just don’t want to be known as that kind of breeder. Personally I am trying to increase the flock to a point I can be more selective on the quality of birds I breed; maybe even try showing a few just to see what a professional has to say about them. If anyone wants some pretty, nice, gentle birds I am fine with selling and trading. I just want them to understand I am in the early stages of getting a nice flock together and plan to be attentive to the breed standards.
