Wow. Just. Too. C-c-c-c-cold.
My feelings are hurt. And my nose is frozen.
Well, we got near 0 here last night. My outside thermometers died, so I am just estimating the temp from what I know my coops will hold above the outside weather. My chilliest coop got down to 27, and my two bantam cochin roos came out ready to sit next to the shop lamp. . . . 500W of chickeny bliss. My smaller roo is favoring his left leg/foot, though, which is worrying me. The first thing I did was pull off my gloves and check his little feet for frostbite. Nothing! Feet were properly colored, and not even cool to the touch - - they were warm! He isn't roosting on his perch or crowing, but he did take a bite or two of breakfast. I figured I'd have to flip him over and really check his leg, hip, etc. for injury (sprain?), but I wanted to thaw off and have coffee first. Any of you with frostbite experience who have info that might help are welcome to chime in!
How did all your birds fare overnight, Mid-TN folks? Hope no one has suffered any losses. Looks like it is going to warm up nicely over the next week, so there is hope!!
Holly, how is your street this morning? Bet that hill near you is still nasty. Hope it thaws today!
Shelly, so sorry about your hatch. There are plenty more eggs out there, though!
1newegg, I have been down south long enough to feel really hurt about a 0 temp and 4 inches of snow. Sometimes I forget about wading through waist-high snowdrifts in <0 temps on the way to the bus, LOL!
CityGirl! You still here? We miss you!
