So Clanton was ok. I got a bit discourgaged with where we are with showgirls at this point. Most seem to think the easier/cheaper route in getting them accepted is as a variety of silkies. Which IMO only will suck. Showgirls are not silkies and should not have to compete against them. Silkies are much further along than Showgirls. Not at all saying Showgirls are not great but they still need improving. White Showgirls are further along than the b/b/s but even then so are white silkies. I think it hard to beat a white silkie for BB, RB and champion feather leg with blues and blacks. I just get really upset getting beat with the mutt silkies that can not compete in the color catagory they were bred for because they don't meet the standard so the breeder puts them in the AOV catagory. I work REALLY hard and cull really hard to get the quality of Showgirls I keep and enter in the shows. This year alone I must have hatched 200 to get the few I kept. And then I get beat with a mutt color that popped out of a chickens butt, that should and would have been culled here on my farm. Not sure how much longer I will continue to drag them out and stress them to get beat with mutts. Soon as I upload pics I will post them either here or on facebook. I continue to do well with the blue and black silkies I enter, but they are not my heart and soul. I really only take them to see where I am at with quality breeding and culling.
On another subject I got my ballot for ASBC and I wanted to let everyone know Amiee Creego will be running as a write in for Vice President
Oh and Vote for Jack!
I have Showgirl chicks if anyone is interested 2 or 3 pet quality the rest have no visible dq's. Most are blue and black. At this point I just want to raise awareness and get people interested in the breed with the hopes getting them accepted as a breed not a variety.
Love the Grey pullet Cathy!
Anne I am happy you are liking your job!
Connie I look forward to kicking your butt at Newport! With all the stress right now I have to look forward to something right! haha
