The Middle Tennessee Thread

I would love to see grown up pics of them! I'm no help on gender with this lot. They are so slow to develop. Plus they are such mellow roosters. I had one earlier in the summer mothering a bunch of babies. I even had babies roosting up under him at night.

I swear they are all gender confused. (I have another hatchery girl that is mounting the other girls. I am 100% sure she is a she. She lays eggs and has hatched out babies. She is a girl for sure and yet she is trying to mount the other girls. Sheesh.)

Perhaps we have some reptilian silkie blood in there and they are changing gender. HA!

If it helps, all of this lot of boys squat when I pet them. Perhaps it's because of that mellowness? Perhaps they are just weird.

Oh gosh no. That's the last thing I need is for the roos to go broody! I can't keep the darn hens from being broody!

Beautiful dog Dixie! Is he a manchester? My Taco dog is haveing a season right now, first in quiet a while. I just don't think I want to try and breed her. She is so spoiled and such a baby of ours that if anything happened to her I would never forgive myself. Meantime I think I am going to have to put diapers on her!lol. Hope after this episod we can manage to get her spayed.
Kandi hows the new chicken palace comming? Is it operational yet? Don't forget the 29th at Fairview,Countrypunk and I are counting the days off!lol Neither one of us needs anything I think its just the "auction fix" we need!lol

Hey okla, Hows things going with you? the palace is coming along good still not finished but 70% have a few more pens to go but they are real nice. I cant keep those mottled chickens from laying. I have chicks due tuesday or wednesday and then again next week. So I went out and looked in the nest box and guess what there is 12 more in there. I need to bring them to you LOL! I am starting to get some from my other breeds now so I am glad of that ready for something different. LOL. May try to make the franklin but like you we really dont need any more right now. J

So Clanton was ok. I got a bit discourgaged with where we are with showgirls at this point. Most seem to think the easier/cheaper route in getting them accepted is as a variety of silkies. Which IMO only will suck. Showgirls are not silkies and should not have to compete against them. Silkies are much further along than Showgirls. Not at all saying Showgirls are not great but they still need improving. White Showgirls are further along than the b/b/s but even then so are white silkies. I think it hard to beat a white silkie for BB, RB and champion feather leg with blues and blacks. I just get really upset getting beat with the mutt silkies that can not compete in the color catagory they were bred for because they don't meet the standard so the breeder puts them in the AOV catagory. I work REALLY hard and cull really hard to get the quality of Showgirls I keep and enter in the shows. This year alone I must have hatched 200 to get the few I kept. And then I get beat with a mutt color that popped out of a chickens butt, that should and would have been culled here on my farm. Not sure how much longer I will continue to drag them out and stress them to get beat with mutts. Soon as I upload pics I will post them either here or on facebook. I continue to do well with the blue and black silkies I enter, but they are not my heart and soul. I really only take them to see where I am at with quality breeding and culling.

On another subject I got my ballot for ASBC and I wanted to let everyone know Amiee Creego will be running as a write in for Vice President
Oh and Vote for Jack!

I have Showgirl chicks if anyone is interested 2 or 3 pet quality the rest have no visible dq's. Most are blue and black. At this point I just want to raise awareness and get people interested in the breed with the hopes getting them accepted as a breed not a variety.

Love the Grey pullet Cathy!

Anne I am happy you are liking your job!

Connie I look forward to kicking your butt at Newport! With all the stress right now I have to look forward to something right! haha

Congrats on everyones new chicks.

Tracey I hope the chicks are well and at least one little girl.

Dixie I love that dog. I had one in high school and she was the sweetest/smartest thing ever.

Lori I hope you are feeling better.

Not sure if I told you guys or not but I got the little chinese crested and my husband absolutely loves him to death. His name is Hippy but I call him Stink, Stinky, Stinker, My Stink.

One of my blacks wont be going... weird molt thing going on ... on another note all the babies are doing fine and your little SG is growing

Oh is Vickie or Aimee going to Newport that you know of?

I always just hope my silkie roos are nice to the babies ... I have a hen sitting on eggs separated from the flock. I guess I will wait till the babies are a couple of weeks then intergrate back with the flock?....I will figure it out and see what works. I am going to let her raise them maybe will get her to stop being broody

I am not complaining it was the whole reason I got silkies to begin with

The kids got a clean bill of health! Now to send in the paperwork and then we will officially be NPIP certified!

It was a very easy process, no surprises, very straightforward! Katie Holder was very pleasant to work with!

Turnip green martinis for everyone!!
