We'll see....the comb is the same as all of the rest (except for the roo) and the feathering pattern looks to be the same - nothing is distinguishing it as a little fella to me. I guess time will tell....

Thank you Anne - I've got mama on the eggs, she's hunkered down and content. Hopefully she's in it for the long haul.

Question please - she came off the nest to do her business for the first time in 24 hours when I went down to put the eggs in. I'd thrown some corn for everyone near her coop, so all of the big girls were down there. As soon as she came out they attacked her - trying to hold her down, pecking and biting at her comb, jumping on top of her - almost like they didn't know her. She's been separate for going on 48 hours now. Is that normal? Poor baby, I chased them off and grabbed her up, and her comb was bleeding. :( She happily went back into her nest (I'm sure partly to get away from the ugliness) and I scolded everyone else, naughty chickens. Is this going to be a long term problem do you suppose? Anything I can do?

Sorry..favorite chick is a rooster...that is typical roo color plus the comb is wide and already turning red.Pullet combs are much narrower. There is no characteristics there to hold onto pullet thoughts

Yes, those that leave the flock and return will get the your new treatment. She has lost her spot inthe flock pecking order.Once she has returned she will find her spot once again. It's best to leave them alone and let them work it out unless it just gets real bad.

Hehehe....I guess I get to choose who we want to let make babies and who we get to eat then. Now I'm going to have to go out and inspect everyone else....

At what point to you not leave them alone and break it up? She had 5 or 6 ganging up on her and she was bleeding by the time I got her. Esp since she's sitting on the nest I'd hate to have her compromised, kwim?

Well...CRAP!
I just realized that with my new bigger incubator, I'm not going to be able to brood in my rubbermaid tub I'm so used to.
Here comes another project.
C'mon tax return!

I may get my kids some rabbits this year, we'll just have to see how the expansion of the chicken department goes. Me and my brother had sooooo many rabbits when we were little, and we used to sell them on the side of the road for 3 bucks each... I guess it's a good thing the internet came along, cause my kids wouldn't have much traffic here on our dead end road.

Edited to include the silkie pics are cute. My wife wants some so bad and I have no interest in having silkies. I've watched the auctions, but no one wants to sell 6 unless they look like scragglies! can anybody here help me with that?
