I got my first Rhodebar egg today - and it's an olive green color! Rhodebars are supposed to lay brown eggs! They've been in a secure pen by themselves for over a month. I'm puzzled.
Yes, I got the chicks directly from GFF. I know other people like GFF, but I am really dissatisfied with them. First of all, they sent lots (for me) of extra roos - no extra pullets. So after paying top dollar for the chicks, I had to deal with rehoming a bunch of roos that I didn't want - which at the time was a major hassle & I ended up having to sell a pullet with 3 roos of both Rhodebars and Legbars in order to get rid of them. No one wanted just roos. GFF's response to my email about the extra roos was to act like I was ridiculous to complain. So I dealt with the extra roos and figured I learned my lesson about GFF. I would never order from them again. And today's experience confirmed that. It is obvious that at least one of the Rhodebar hens I got isn't purebred. I sent them an email earlier today and got a borderline indignant reply - i.e. saying they don't crossbreed rhodebars with other breeds! I just don't care for the way they do business. I read through the Rhodebar thread here, and found out that at least one other person has Rhodebars from GFF that are laying blue/green eggs instead of brown.Cross breeding would not have caused that at your house.... I would contact GFF and tell them.... they OWE YOU SOME MONEY! They sold you some that were cross breed at THEIR farm not YOURS. These are chicks your grew out from GFF right?
