I've bought from Meyer hatchery several times - been really pleased with everything so far. Three pullets I bought over a year ago are among my most reliable layers. I bought a dozen day old chicks a few weeks ago to build up my layer flock for the spring and they're doing great.

That is great....how do you think the chicks will do in the cold weather of February? I am hoping maybe it will be a warmer week the week we plan to have them shipped ...do they add heat packs for them in cold weather?

Pumpkin for breakfast treat. They act starve but they had 30+lbs of feed in the coop just LOVE treats. They love them so much i am looking into starting my own mealworm colony!!!!!

That's a good size flock you have there! Looks like lots of variety too! I sure miss all my birds since we moved. I did get to buy a new pair of pigeons tonight off of Craigslist. Hopefully I will soon be building a flock back up.

Here are a few pics of the feed bin i was working on. I changed my original plan of 2 tilt out bins by shortening one bins height and adding a drawer to hold grit. I'm pretty pleased with the end resut. FREE

!!! Each bin will hold a 50 # bag of feed or scatch and the drawer will hold a 8 pound bag of grit.

has anyone here ever ordered from Meyer Hatchery? We are planning on ordering 25 pullets from their Production pack in February. And before we do I wanted to know if Meyers birds lay as well as they say?
Heard they were great and ordered from them over the weekend for delivery in April≥....got a Columbian Wyandotte, Salmon Faverolle and Golden Lakenvelder....excited to add these to our little flock.

Yes, Meyers adds heat packs in cold weather. The chicks I got last December and January did just fine through last winter's cold days. I put them outside in the coop immediately - but I have a brooder pen in the coop with a heat lamp. As long as they have one warm place they can go when they get cold, they're fine with the rest of their area being cool/cold. I found that they feather out quicker than the ones I had kept in the garage for a couple months. Mine are three weeks old now, and on warmer days, I plan to start opening the pop door so they can go outside if they want to - but still return to the coop and heat lamp, as needed.

No matter what hatchery you order from, there will be occasional mishaps - Even with overnight shipping, I had one chick that was DOA - but Meyer was great to work with.
