The Middle Tennessee Thread

Well. That was exhilarating. . . saw a funnel cloud from the front porch. And yes, I did have the sense to come inside when I saw it! ("Feet, do your thing!")

Our power just came back on after two hours. It sure blew here! My pens are a bit waterlogged at the corners, but the birds seem none the worse for wear. The banty chicks and broody in their nursery don't even seem to care about the wind and rain.

Hope all of you and yours are safe this afternoon! There are lots of sirens 'round here today. Holly, how are things up your way? That nasty cloud was headed northeast. . .

Sheesh, Jen! Stay away from those funnels! ACK!

When the sirens starting going off on campus I hopped in my car to try to beat it home. I left a stack of grading here at home and didn't want to sit at school for hours. I ALMOST made it all teh way home. I would have, but I got caught by the school zone cars going 15 mph. Grrrr. I made it safely in though. Just got a little dumped on. Of course, when I got home I heard the babies I moved out this past weekend chirping like mad. The little dorks were standing in the middle of the run getting rained on. They were soaked to the skin and miserable. I dashed out through the rain and lightning and tornadic activity to toss chicks in the coop.

They seem fine now (although it is a little iffy as to whether they will ever willingly leave the coop again).

Hope everyone battened down the hatches to ride it out. THankfully it was a really narrow band of nasty.

Believer- you've turned into a rooster!

GOod for you for warning the girls about the hawk. What issues are you having that you can't figure out? There's a lot of knowledge floating around in this group. Someone should know that answer for you.

Well thank goodness I put up the silkies and growing out EEs they would have been soaked (learned that the last rain). We are still getting rumblings. I Put up Easter decorations before the down pour, indoor only of course. Have my bators plugged into a bAttery back up, but only lost power for a min or so. So now making chocolate chip cookies YUMMY. Hope every one fairs the weather well!!

Jen...we left those for you this time.We didn't get much here at all..hardly any wind just sheets of rain and more rain.Power flickered a few times but thankfully came right back on.I think being right in this bend of the river it protects us..the tornado's usually bounce back up and don't come down until they are on the other side.My birdies all went to the coops pretty quick and had a few scared kiddo's
Lightning and thunder are worse now than during the "storms" my house is shaking as I type

Sending out First chance on Jens favorite chickens..selling the entire flock of white laced red cornish-1 roo 6 ladies-and they lay lots of eggs.
Good news the next Dixie Chick has pipped won't be much longer before the Dixie Chicks are singing in harmony around here..chirp chirp chirp several more due to hatch in about a week.

Aww no, Holly! Don't get rid of my Cornish!!

Rats.

If I were in the country, I'd have a whole yard full of pterodactyls. *sigh*

CityGirl, I can just see you fetching crying chicks from a rainy pen! Did you have your Magic Muck Boots on, or were you in civies? Silly chicks.

We got more rain later in the afternoon, so now all my pens are soaked. Looks like a clean-up day today . . .

I am glad to hear that no one suffered any damage yesterday. Hope the rest of our regulars will chime in soon and let us know how their day went.

Welcome back Holly!

Except for some wicked high winds and tons of rain we're okay. The really bad weather seemed to have skipped us, thank goodness. We did have a tornado drill with the kids yesterday afternoon. The boys loved going in the basement, the girls..not so much. At one point my 6 yr old son looked outside and said "I'm going in the basement, this is crazy!"
The coop is wet on the far end but the girls are all safe, dry and happy now that they are outside and the sun is shining.
