The Middle Tennessee Thread

I'm really glad you.like it. I hope it works right when you get all the electronics hooked up. I didn't post any pics I thought I'd let you have the honor, it is all yours now.

This is the hull of the cabinet.

He cut this part out for air circulation in the top.

This is part of a drawer. We used hardware cloth for the bottom of the drawers to hold the baskets also for circulation.

This is another picture of the drawer. The OSB is for stability of the drawer to help keep it square and to hold the hardware cloth in place.

This the completed Hatcher..... well not COMPLETE but Troy was finished with it after all my changes!

and there is not much of a gap at the back for heat to escape.

This is the bottom. The flexwatt and water will all be in the bottom... all the mechanicals will be here. The black thing is a thing for the electrical wires to go through. There is enough room for extra baskets for hatching if I need it. I think that will be more for the weaker chicks that need help with bad leg and such.

This is for ventilation. I can turn it to allow as much air flow as I want or as little as I need to hold heat.

DIDN'T HE DO A GREAT JOB! I will post updates as I put the guts in it. I will do that over the next few nights. I have a lockdown next saturday and I would like to test it before I start using it.

Well hello everyone - I just found this thread and I'm so glad to find some fellow Tennesseans. I'm a new chicken mom - 1yr - and have been struggling with all the first (first tragedy, first worms, first babies, first broody hens, first aggressive roosters, etc.) All my chickens are bantums - I started with cochins from someone's farm, transitioned to a few silkies, and now are raising a batch of buff bantum brahmas. I hope to maintain a flock of only 16 or so, but I have a black cochin rooster and hen that I'll have to keep separate forever because he has chronic bronchitis. This has been such a fun experience - I look forward to watching this thread and getting to know my chicken 'neighbors.'

Welcome to the thread. I've never heard of a chicken with bronchitis. I guess you do learn something new every day.

Well I'm calling it bronchitis - he had a 'cold' (I know it was some other bronchial illness, but not sure of the diagnosis) - since then he will have 'rails' - gurgle sounds in his chest - some mornings. Other than that he's fine, happy and otherwise ornery. He's been this way for 4 months or so - that's why I'm calling it chronic bronchitis.

Have you tried any kind of antibiotic? I would try Tylan if i were you...it is made specifically for respiratory infections which is what it sounds like he has...I have one of my chickens get a respiratory infection from being shipped when he was a day or so old and he got to cold..any way we treated him with Tylan when he got a bit bigger (10 weeks old) and it cleared right up in 3 days and he is perfectly healthy now no wheezing or gurgle sounds anymore. Tylan you have to order from ebay or similar places and it is a bit expensive but well worth it in my opinion because it works.
