Just wanted to say hi!

Moved here last month from Sunny Florida and so far loving Tennessee!!

No chickens as of right now sadly :( but hoping to get some more someday soon, have to find a piece of land to call our own first. The hardest part of moving here was leaving my Florida farm and moving into a neighborhood (gulp).

Ok, pity party over :p

So anyways.....HI YA'LL!!

Welcome. So what counties are you land hunting in? & what kinds of chickens are you going to get for your new farm?

It looks like lots of us have chickens & other livestock. We are watching for our Pot Belly Pig to deliver a litter since last night.
Nothing yet but she has been having contractions. Last time it was a false pregnancy, but the time b/f she had 6 but smashed half of them, so we are on the lookout to grab them fast if/when she actually has some...then I'll be bottle feeding until I can get them all sold.

Hi and welcome! I could not imagine being without chickens.

Let us know when you get some land of your own, we have a lot of breeders here in TN with lot's of different breeds. I have Black English Orpingtons. I know people on here have marans, wyandottes, cream legbars, white leghorns, barnevelders..there are a lot more breeds than that...that is just all I can think if right now.

Mostly Warren as DH works for Bridgestone in Morrison but we'd like to sell our farm in Florida first. Wanting to get a few good layers for eggs and meat, a couple Salmon Faverolles like we had in Florida, maybe some Polish Silkie crosses for some character. I'll look at lots of breeds but will never again own Leghorns. Buggers are MEAN! Our roo would attack on a daily basis.

Orphingtons are awesome! Had a hen in SC a few years ago and LOVED her the most! She was my sons hen.

Yeah life without my chickens is almost as bad as my life without my horses but all of my animals are in wonderful new homes getting loved and spoiled so that eases the pain some.

Quote: Yes, we love our Orpingtons they are very friendly and calm, though my English Orpingtons are not your regular orpington from a hatchery. English Orpingtons are HUGE most roosters get to about 12 lbs and hens around 10 lbs. some even bigger than that if you do selective breeding...Here are some pics for a size comparison

Black English Orp roo and pullet in the background next to fully grown RIR hens
and my Black's are not even fully grown yet they still will get a little bigger.

and the same roo as above next to a fully grown Red Sex-Link hen and RSL hens are about the same size as a white leghorn.
So as you can see English Orpingtons are a lot bigger than your average hatchery orpington. They are a gentle giant though!

By the way...we live in white county so we are close!
