The Middle Tennessee Thread

Hello all. My mother is about to join the backyard chicken ranks and is dragging me with her. Well, not really. I'm always on board when it comes to new pets. These will be pets and egg layers. I know she only needs hens but I've read that hens are calmer with a rooster. Also the roosters are so cute. However the thought of fertilized eggs kind of makes everyone here sick so we were thinking a capon. Can you buy a pet capon in middle Tennessee? Maybe there is a caponizer out there with an immaculate record? Right now we are just working on coop plans but trying to think ahead. I like the idea of a rooster, but will do without if we need to.

Hey, welcome. I got into this egg thing too because of mom. Actually, she's made it one of our school projects like 4H. haha

Most of you probably have electricity in your coops....I don't. But I do have lights! ....LOL

Same here, no power out on the farm. BUT, the KMart and BigLots after Christmas 70% mark-downs allowed the solar lawn lights with snowflakes to only be 50-cents each. Mom grabbed a whole bunch.

We are traveling from PA to Chattanooga, TN and back the second week of March using I-81. Anyone along the route that will have eggs available forsale, so we can hatch when we get home?

Ok I got permission to give out the number to get boxes , 545-1705 the guys name is Johnathon. Or you can call Ridgetop mowers @ 855-0044 the mower place gets the boxes from Johnathon. You can fit 4 boxes in a full size pickup with the tailgate down & a couple of ratchet straps.
