The Middle Tennessee Thread

Cinny, I lost a huge Welsummer hen to a hawk -- it hit hard and broke her neck. She was in the forest underbrush and I was there before the hawk left so I know it was the culprit. Some folks think their birds are safe after they reach a certain size or because they have cover or because they are a good color to blend with their environment... It's a false sense of security. A hungry raptor will still give it a go. I've had at least three attempts made in spite of supervision, dog, rooster, etc. You just have to decide how comfortable you are with losses. Unlike some predators, a hawk will only take one at a time.
OMG!!!! I had no idea. Thanks for the advise, I'm going out now to lure them inside with treats. I know we can't shoot hawks, but I now understand why some people want to!

cuckoo Marans don't lay really dark eggs. something that is a work in progress

She is producing like a champ though. We have an egg three days running- maybe 4. The first day we found 2 but they were in a dug out nest down in the run. I am starting to think it was hers too, we just didn't see it until the next day.

Coop for sale lots of neat extras. Double swing-out doors for easy cleaning there is also a swing up frame that locks in place when the double doors are open for ventilation covered with hardware cloth. Two openings on the end for ventilation also covered with hardware cloth. A sliding door on a double pulley system for the chickens to enter and a roost bar. Double nesting box with a lift up lid you can also remove the whole nesting box from the coop just by lifting it up and pulling out for ease of cleaning. Trust me it's well built and well thought out making your chicken chores easier. Asking 750.00 you paint it and put the roof on it the coop is roughly 4 x 8
