I know we can't shoot hawks, but I now understand why some people want to!Cinny, I lost a huge Welsummer hen to a hawk -- it hit hard and broke her neck. She was in the forest underbrush and I was there before the hawk left so I know it was the culprit. Some folks think their birds are safe after they reach a certain size or because they have cover or because they are a good color to blend with their environment... It's a false sense of security. A hungry raptor will still give it a go. I've had at least three attempts made in spite of supervision, dog, rooster, etc. You just have to decide how comfortable you are with losses. Unlike some predators, a hawk will only take one at a time.
