I am so sorry for your loss it is always the favorites we loose first! I lost 2 of my babies to a stray dog earlier this year and one of them was my best Splash Orpington pullet. We had no idea what kept killing the birds because there was never any body to be found. We finally figured it out when I went out one day and there was a huge female boxer chasing the chickens around in the lot fortunately the chickens were locked up at that time. We tried to catch her to take her to the animal shelter but she was too afraid to come near us then we tried to "get rid of her"
So sad today. We came home yesterday and went to put the girls up at 4:30 and couldn't find Pippa Middlehen, or as we my grandson calls her, LIttle Bit. My neighbor came out and said she saw a hawk carry her off. We then went behind the coop and found a huge pile of feathers. The other girls are all fine, she was the littlest so maybe the others are so big he won't come back. Just to be safe, I didn't let them out today but kept them in the coop and gave them extra treats. We live in a subdivision and are surrounded on all sides by our neighbors…..never had any trouble before. The kids in the neighborhood used to come and visit her because she was so different from any chicken they had ever seen, and she loved the attention. We are all heartbroken and will miss her dearly.

Hey Donna….yes I am still in the market for olive eggers, but have no place to separate them from the rest of the girls until Spring. Anne has graciously offered a Silkie hen for Hudson to replace Little Bit….if we wait until Spring I can bring the smaller coop out and put the Silkie and Olive egger in there together for 2 weeks so the rest of the girls can get used to them and then introduce them to the flock.I am so sorry!
Are you in the market yet for some olive eggers? I MIGHT find some this weekend. I have several barred pullet in a pen in the shop and I will be selling the barred rocks and any Olive Eggers I find.... you have first dibs still if you life is calmer. NO PROMISES.... I have cuckoos in there too and I can't tell them apart till I check the toe punches.
There's an ad on craigslist from a breeder in Murfreesboro, south of Nashville. I've never dealt with them, but it looks like they may have what you're looking for: http://nashville.craigslist.org/grd/4168771032.htmlI will be in Tennessee and I'm considering possibly hatching out a batch of silkies. Any good breeders in this area? Prefer show quality minimal breeder quality. Thanks!
