Spring is all about surprise babies. The neighbors goats/my goats cause they are always in my yard and I feed them. Had two babies yesterday I was shocked cause she didn't look that big.

Hey these are my two new additions. I traded a wool ram for them. Meet Hercules and Eolis.

Both ganders so no eggs this year. I will try and find them some girls for next year.

Yeah I wasn't even expanding this direction until next year but I saw an ad in CL that this lady needed to find them a new home because her grandson was terrified of them and she was looking for a wool ram lamb. Well I had a 2 year old ram that I had held onto because he is the best fleece I have bred in 15 years. But he is too closely related to many of my flock and he is white and I am breeding for brown (very recessive). I have been trying to find him a place that would appreciate what he has to offer (very nice wool, lovely temperament, easy keeping). I was thrilled to make a trade even if it meant annoying DH with the unscheduled expansion.

Anyone have experience with an egg eating chicken? I've suspected that one or more were eating eggs because with 11 pullets/hens I'm lucky to get 2-3 eggs a day. Today I found 2 partial egg shells in the nest box & 1 hen with what appears to be yolk on her face. I plan to crate her for a day or two & see if my production picks up. If it does can she be reintroduced? Or will she still try to eat eggs? If so can she be broke ?

HUM..... I think I have one in the WL pen too. I find my eggs covered with sand and have to clean the nest box all the time. At first I thought someone was laying a soft shell egg.... no I think it is retaliation and they don't like her or something.

Rehab..... maybe. Do you have one of those ceramic eggs? They can't break them so she may try try try and then give up all together but you would have to pen her for several weeks till she stops. Just because you found egg on her does not mean she did it. They will all jump in when there is FREE egg to eat LOL.
