2 of 3 stops completed today. I got my chicks in Chattanooga.... well just north of Chattanooga on 75. He took us and the kids around and let us play with his new baby pigmy goats. Too cute. Got to see his birds and projects. The adults of the chicks were very nice so I am excited to see what I get from the 13 chicks I picked up. He also offered me a hen so I took her too LOL. She will be a HUGE help in getting my project going. He is also going to bring me some Dark Brown Leghorn Splits when and if he hatches some..... got 3 little eggs and a laying hen so I might get some of my own LOL. He was very nice and patient with the little boys. I will also say he had the BIGGEST DOG I HAVE EVER SEEN! Really good dog too. His size kinda scared the kids at first but they didn't see afraid of him.

I did accidentally drive by Turkey Creek.... I waived at you did you see me??????? I was stressing a little and hubby said he asked me something about I 40 and next thing I know we are somehow going EAST???? had to turn around and head west then on to Livingston/Sparta exit and meet up with Retiredwithchicks and she got to see what I got today....... and a BOAT load of eggs too.

I'm
I'm interested too. I've never seen ticks so small! I just picked 4 of the dog, I'm scared to check the cat. I do have 4 Guineas, but they have about 8 acres to cover until I can get more.

Tea tree oil. I have been treating my Beagle for ecsema with a homemade soap (by Silkie Sensation) with tea tree oil, rosemary and oatmeal. I haven't seen a flea or tick on her since starting her treatment. It is doing wonders for her ecsema and I gave a bar to my mom for her to use on her skin problems too and they have cleared up. I even dampened the bar and rubbed it on my own legs when some no-see-ums jumped me the other day and was able to return outside with out them reattacking.

Nice pic! Do you have any of the inside of the coop? I wanted to do that but didn't I just built a wooden coop

I don't but I can get one. We are still working on interior. Got to add more structural support and nesting boxes. Right now it's just roosts. But all in all, it's a great little coop and our flock seems happy with it.

King or Rat snake ( unsure as to which it is) harmful to chickens? Discovered what I estimated to be a 5ft long 1.5 round black snake on a dirt pile we have in the future goat pasture and need to know about it and my chickens. I want it to stay around if it's harmless because it's eating the insane amount of mice we have and I believe keeping the ugly snakes away ( fingers crossed.

I need copperhead protection as our property backs to deep woods. Give me some suggestions PLEASE! DH wants a donkey but finding one cheap that can be hauled ( no truck or trailer, stupid us for trading truck for car then buying farm )

Gunieas maybe?

I have a incubator.I'm trying to hatch some new birds but I lack eggs. Any free bird eggs would be appreciated but if i have to ill buy some eggs too.Thank you for your time!

Get a pig! We HAD rattlers coppers and chicken snakes but we got pigs and nothing! How I was a help

Speaking of spiders, but slightly on a different note;
Does anyone on here have any idea what I can use to kill/repel ticks? We are trying to move, and where we are moving to is completely INFESTED with small ticks....not the seed ticks, but close, and also the larger ticks both deer and dog varieties....over a 2 day period both my husband and I were covered in bites, and we have ALOT more work to do there before we can move chickens in and get some guinea keets purchased and raised to help. I don't want to poison the area for future chicken/guinea/turkeys, but DO want to be able to camp/work there without constantly picking ticks off and being covered in bites!

We get our yard sprayed by a landscape or garden company….it cost about $100 but is so worth it.

You will have to make your hen house impervious to snakes because they will eat eggs. The pigs aren't adverse to eating the mice either. I also have a spare barn/mouser cat who is fixed and leaves poultry alone. He loves yellow dogs. I guess because they are yellow just like him.
