So I killed a Rattle Snake yesterday in my chicken yard! That time of year has arrived please be careful out there!

Hoping we don't see a repeat of snakes, 2 poisonous ones in a few months is enough in my book.

I need to let the guinea out but I want some eggs to hatch and they are not laying where they should.... so they are going to be penned up till maybe monday. They should have quite the feast of bugs when they get out. Maybe even fresh cut grass too.

How old does a dog have to be to use the collars?

I am so sorry your kitty is sick Anne. Ours died of feline AIDS from a feral cat several years ago and it was awful. We haven't gotten another cat since that time. That being said does anyone have kittens that are chicken friendly?

As of this morning Dodger looked better. He is still at the vet getting IV drugs three times a day. I took some tuna and he actually started scarfing it up. I think we are still wavering on the 50/50 point, but I feel better after seeing him. I took a shirt I had been sleeping in and that the other kitties had wallowed around on. Hopefully that will make him less stressed.

None of my cats will leave a collar on. I am getting the good collars for the dogs next time I am in. I'll have to keep doing the drops for the cats. We did the Comfortis pills last summer and they didn't seem to work against the fleas. I don't know if they work against ticks as well. I never, ever find ticks on the cats. According to my research ticks will bite cats and then the cats groom them off so I am not likely to actually see ticks on them.

According to the vet techs, they are seeing cats with Cytux that have been treated with Advantage and Frontline. They are checking with the vet to see what preventative she is recommending (other than the collars, which is her first choice).

I think it is time to add guineas to the yard. I have held off because I didn't want to offend the neighbors. I am pretty much over that. Hopefully between the tick preventative and the guineas we can stay on top of the flea problem. None of my other cats ever get to go outside, so unless one of the dogs brings something in they should be okay.

Wish I had known about this disease before. Arg.

I called this morning he said he would replace them. All 6 of them. I'm so happy I hope this batch is better.
I've had this issue with feed store chixks but never that many. Usually only 1 or 2 which I tend to expect since they aren't notably the most healthy chicks and they go through stress of shipping and then the busy store with people looking at them and breathing on the constantly.

glad he is doing better. Poor kitty. Wishing you both luck and hoping he makes it through. He seems like a strong one.

I got some from Ideal last spring and they dropped like flies! I didn't order them someone else did that was my first time with hatchery chicks...... don't want to repeat that. I did get some WL from a feed store this year. I lost 3 of 10 but that was because it was still cold. The others are doing great. Not sure where Rural King gets theirs from by they did fine.

I have hatching eggs running out my ears if anyone needs some.

I also put up several ads on CL for laying hens and pullets. I have not inventoried everything but need to get them thinned way down. Now if my back will hold up I need to move and inventory chicks ASAP they need to get moving out the door too.... and the roo guy needs to come again too.

we are having a job issue right now so not sure if we will be getting the guinea eggs or not. DH might be getting fired for something someone else did. He even saw the person do it but who is gonna believe one of the youngest in the company?

They were 2 days old when I picked them up. This was the second batch I had gotten from him. He breeds his own chick's so no shipping they are hatched locally The first batch is doing great. I just think something went wrong during the incubation period. They were all very tiny. So we will see if the next batch thrives.
