Mud is bad here... but not as bad as the dang predators... :/

It was BAD and NOT BAD LOL. The neighbor has HUGE silver maples trees 5 were either snapped a foot off the ground or PULLED UP FROM THE ROOTS! One root ball is about 8 to 10 ft TALL! and that tree was the one that crossed the street and took the power out... also landed on the fire hydrant but not enough to hurt it. One tree fell into another one but 3 are left standing. (he lost 3 others several years ago the same way). Of course most fell into our yard and drive way but we were able to get around them to the bridge. Pulled into our main front yard there was one tree down near the spring. Then as we got to the tractor barn (like a garage with the side built out... those are the coops) I saw metal roofing then chickens running around. The wind picked up right in that area. It pulled one door OUT on the right side and the other 2 doors on the other side were pulled IN and OPEN. Broke all the locks lose and pulled half the roof off on one side and some shingles. In the field across from that barn it broke 2 cedar trees and uprooted 2 or 3 more. One was down in the drive. The main barn didn't get any real damage, but the front bay door took some abuse as we had to hammer it back in place where we lock it. No damage out back to the 10 breeding pens or in the back pasture.

So all in all it could have been worse. We called ins and since the only real structure damage was the roofing and we still have it we are not going to file a claim. They don't help with the trees and that was the main thing. Maybe 10-15 trees down. My son may take off work tomorrow to help do some clearing. As of right now no electric. I think it was more than just the neighbors trees might have been more further down the road. The road was closed all day had to drive through his yard to get to the farm.

We have a plan to try to put the roofing back on tomorrow. I just hope nothing gets hungry tonight and kills them all.

Sorry you lost a chicken in the mud slide. I hope you have backups for it.

Oh, wow!!! So sorry, ours wasn't THAT bad... I have more, just a sad way to go...

Everything OK?

Luckily we didn't lose power but for a few minutes. I had the generator on standby just incase. Everything is badly flooded and we have a bunch of downed branches, but the kids and the critters are ok and that's all that matters. I hope everyone else is ok.

Duke dog proof trap. One large marshmallow in the bottom, some corn (cleaner) or sardines (much messier), and then another marshmallow on top sticking up a little to act as an indicator for you if viewing from a distance (to know if something has messed with it) and as an attractant to raccoons, opossum, etc. Easy to set , and they work great.

DMRippy, I'm so sorry to hear y'all got hit so hard. We've always had pretty crazy weather here as long as I can remember, but this crap lately is nuts. DH was called of a big job to fix storm damage to several businesses in Nashville today. Said Brentwood was pretty torn up as well, downed trees everywhere and pretry severe roof/structure damage.

I'll let you borrow two or three of them for a couple of weeks if you want to catch a few of your chicken killers. Let me know. You can put corn, sardines, scrap meat, etc in them.
