The Middle Tennessee Thread

Ha! Good point about organizing a separate thread to collect all City's adventures, though. Don't know that she'd want to start another thread on BYC for it, since she created that blog page.

Well Holly, you're already up and stoked about the weather . . . me too! I'm ready to plant seeds, hatch chicks, get some sun, and oh wait - - it's JANUARY! Dang it. Oh well, it should be a fantastic weekend to get outside and get a few things done, anyway. Maybe Mr. Buehler can get that coop finished, eh!
lol.png

I know someone else who is going to be busy . . . OklaDD, aka the busiest man in Tennessee. (or Oklahoma, for that matter!) Bet you have a million projects for a day like this!

Hope everyone gets the most out of this lovely weather! Enjoy!

Jen..I love how you think but the Mr. is financially stuck on the coop now.We have to make sure we don't owe that darn Uncle of ours now we have decided to insulate and heat it..added up the bill on it quickly but it's still better than having this many house pets
sickbyc.gif
Always waiting for something and this time it's some play money-don't dare spend the real money until the weather breaks.
Set over a hundred eggs yesterday and still have another big bunch to get in but have 3 going to lockdown tomorrow and need a hatcher free..then it will be stuffed.6 bators on and thinking about another..always thinking
gig.gif

Its so pretty out the pool is screaming...can't wait until we can enjoy it again.Nothing like being in the pool watching the chickens weeding the garden

I'm still looking for a few outside rabbit hutches or something like it for a few cute bantams if anyone sees one for sale give me a big yell.I don't want to wait until that great husband of mine gets them built and he needs a weekend off every once in awhile.

I think we were all out playing in the warm weather

Today wasn't my chicken day..my best BLRW Roodle Jr. spent yesterday practicing with the pullets-they were not pleased and again this morning he was his tween self so boy was I surprised to find him dead in the coop tonight.Lesson to the other roos...slow down
hmm.png
Now,I have a pen full of roodles and no prospects-my big fella better be extra careful
Hey Shelly...how are those babies?
I'm looking for more silkies or showgirls for the kids fluffy addiction..any colors
I still have lots of olive egg chicks looking for a new place to live

Hi All!

well I've been just too busy with work - 10-13 hours days every day last week. I spent the beautiful Saturday picking up two Angora bunnies in Spencer TN - I have a little 'buyers remorse' just hoping I did the right thing. Funny how you learn so much AFTER the fact. I wanted to breed the bunnies but I have no idea if they are the proper conformation to breed correct offspring (I'm just taking the sellers word and didn't even get to met her, her son had me meet him at the Shell gas station = seemed weird) - they are pedigreed and tattoed but I recieved no registration papers.

Holly -
the incubation is going great. I am showing a steady 100 F with 50-55% humidity every day. I don't open the bator - I found a aquariam pipe that i put water through to add to the channels. Funny sometimes I miss the channels and the bator leaks everywhere - there are a lot of holes poked in this Little Giant bator.

Out of the initial 12 eggs - two were cracked so I started with 10 eggs. On day 7 candling I seen one 'suspect - clear' egg. I left it in until the next candling. I then candled again at day #12 and it still looked bad so i took it out. then I candled all eggs on day #14 and one more looks 'suspect'. All other 8 eggs have a lot of viening , a big dark mass and looks like swimming activity. tommorow is day #18 - so tonight is my last candling. So, this will be a real exciting weekend for me - my first time incubating. Opps I better get the baby brooder set up .

Okla-doodle-doo - great picture of the snow! We'll appreciate it more in August when it's 100F and we are mowing our yards *smile*

This weekend was definately a tease for spring !

Hey Jenski,Beuler, and all you others where you guys//gals at. We are getting behind here!lol
It got cold again, dang! And my bantams justbstarted laying good. And I have a bunch of baby pigeons to!
Bluer(sorry about the spelling) how many baby's do you have now? What kinds are they?

Hey Okla...I'm not sure where Jenski is...she must be hiding so she won't see many chick pictures..she will get that hatching itch
lol.png
How are the chickens doing?
I'm getting ready to begin those long weeks of Girl Scout cookies so trying to get life caught up here at home..and taxes
he.gif
. Megan has over 225 boxes of cookies to sell so if anyone wants any let me know
I'm heading back up to Foley's in a few weeks for a box full of chicks and a second roo..not close to the one I lost but it will give me more options. It's a slow week here for chicks..waiting on Shelly's chicks to hatch. All of mine are still brewing in the bators but there are lots of them brewing
big_smile.png
I set every egg we had for a week after I wormed them...it's a good thing that they are not laying up a storm yet.
Right now I have some Buckeye,Buff Sussex and lavender Orpington's in one pen..rest of my new hatch pens are lots of rocks and Olive eggers
I have several real nice mottled bantam Cochin roos..and a few pullets all feathered but too sweet to go out in the cold looking for a new home-both black and blue several are split to my mille fleur then lets see Buff Orpington's that hatched last Sept are needing a home..2 roos 3 pullets then I have some BO Nov pullets and a few more Barred Rock pullets solid blue pullets barred Blue Roosters,EE Roos maybe a pullet or two and a few mixed pullets all looking for a new flock master.Probably more if I went and looked
lol.png
oh yeah several BLRW Roos still looking.I have a beautiful one but single combed..if anyone wants a flock protector that is purty purty and sweet he's the roo for the job.
I'm still looking for some silkies
cool.png

Hmm I meant blue mottled roos but I could get my arm twisted into a pullet I'm going to be hatching lots more of them shortly. The blue mottled pullets are not split to MF though just the blue mottled roo is and several of my black mottled...you know the papa roos on those
lol.png

HB, is Foley the person with BLRW? I really wanted some chicks of these but don't know where to find some of decent quality, prefer not to get from a hatchery.
